Job description

Job Description:We are seeking an outstanding and enthusiastic postdoctoral researcher to join our team in the exciting field of quantum communication. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a cutting-edge experimental project with the ultimate aim of violating Bell’s inequality over a record-long distance and using the system for device-independent quantum key distribution. Along the way, the system will also be used for long-distance continuous variable quantum key distribution using a hybrid detection scheme comprising of both photon counting and homodyne detection. This is an incredible opportunity to be part of a larger European research program, QSNP (Quantum Secure Network Partnership), that involves 38 European institutions. In addition to making use of the capacity of this large program, you will work in close collaboration with two PhD students on that particular project as well as the rest of the research group at DTU Physics that counts a total of 56 people. As a postdoctoral researcher, you will play a crucial role in designing and implementing experimental protocols for long-distance quantum communication.Responsibilities and qualifications
Your key responsibilities are to:

  • Design and implement experimental protocols for long-distance quantum communication using a hybrid detection scheme comprising of both photon counting and homodyne detection.
  • Develop, operate and maintain an experimental setup for continuous variable quantum key distribution with non-Gaussian states.
  • Acquire, analyze and interpret experimental data,
  • Prepare manuscripts for publication, and present research findings at conferences and workshops.
  • Collaborate with researchers from other institutions within the QSNP program to advance the overall project goals.

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent). We are looking for an exceptional physicist with extraordinary talents and outstanding drive. In particular, we are looking for academic excellence and/or demonstrated scientific achievements. We also expect you to have a strong ability to conceive new ideas, construct high-performance experimental setups, take initiative and leadership, and secure progress of the experimental work on a daily basis. Essential is your internal drive to achieve significant and ground-breaking results. We expect you to:

  • be motivated and dedicated to do research of the highest standards,
  • enjoy working in a team, be excited about sharing your expertise with other group members, and be open to new ideas,
  • share our values of scientific curiosity and creativity,
  • be excited about large challenges and enjoy solving them,
  • have an extraordinary drive towards achieving groundbreaking results,
  • love physics discussions and participating in thoughtful conversations,
  • make things work and deliver!

Further requirements and qualifications
We require demonstrated expertise in experimental quantum optics and a Ph.D. in physics, quantum information science, or a related field. Expertise in some of the following areas is expected:

  • Expertise in quantum information processing, quantum optics, or related fields.
  • Strong experimental skills and solid theoretical understanding of quantum information.
  • Experience in continuous variable quantum information processing and entanglement generation is preferred but not required.
  • Experience in programming and data analysis.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills in English.

We offer a stimulating research environment with excellent opportunities for professional growth and development. The successful candidate will have access to state-of-the-art experimental facilities and resources to help them achieve their research goals. We offer
DTU is a leading technical university globally recognized for the excellence of its research, education, innovation and scientific advice.
