We are seeking qualified Best Interest Assessors (BIA) to join the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) Team on secondment for 6 months with a potential extension in the future.As a Best Interest Assessor, you’ll assess the mental capacity and best interests of adults and strive to uphold people’s dignity and human rights. You’ll analyse and evaluate complex evidence and views to ensure best interest decisions are made. This is a fulfilling role enabling adults who require support to have their views and wishes considered in how they receive support to ensure this promotes their quality of life.In return we can offer you a supportive environment within our well-established team so that you can grow your expertise and experience in this specialist role.We have two full-time positions available, (37 hours) – Mon to Thurs 08:30 to 17:00hrs & Fri 08:30hrs to 16:30hrs.Your Role:As a Best Interest Assessor you’ll provide effective safeguards for members of the public who fall within the remit of the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) legislation by providing a high quality assessment and advice based on the statutory requirements arising from the Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA), ensuring compliance with Article 5 of the European Convention on Human Rights.Working within relevant policies, practises, and procedures under the direction of your team leader, you’ll coordinate the DoLS assessment process within statutory timescales. Recognising safeguarding concerns, you’ll act in line with local and national policy to improve outcomes for people.You’ll provide expert advice to social work colleagues, other agencies and the general public ensuring an effective and consistent multi-agency approach to DoLS. Supporting the training requirements for Best Interest Assessor candidates and you will help ensure our policies and practices are as effective, efficient and robust as possible.Requirements of the post:Candidates must hold a post qualified award as a Best Interest Assessor (BIA) and hold a degree in Social Work, Occupational Therapy or similar e.g. CQSW, DipSW, Nursing, and have current registration with the relevant body for this.Drawing upon your experience in assessing complex needs for adults, you’ll have a robust background of working in adult social care or health care with the ability to use your initiative, prioritisation and time keeping skills to manage and prioritise allocated cases.
