This role is to provide experienced middle grade support for inpatient care on Cardiology ward. Bickleigh ward is supported by a cardiologist of the week model with 8 interventional cardiologists currently on the rota. Robust ward processes are in place with board round at 9am attended by medical and nursing staff along with the wider multidisciplinary team. A further afternoon huddle is held at 3pm. This role would be predominantly ward-based to provide support and supervision to resident doctors and it offers immense potential to further enhance inpatient care and ward processes. Subject to satisfactory performance, the post holder could be supported for a substantive role. One General Cardiology outpatient clinic a week would be a part of this role. A 4-hour session once a week to support clinical reasoning session for medical students during term times/ 30 weeks in a year would be in the Job Plan.Main duties of the jobIn the 11 week cycle, the post holder will perform one week of night shifts on call split into four nights and three nights (20.00 to 08.30) and one week of late shift on call days, split into 4 and 3 long days (08.00-20.30). They will support the In-Patient Cardiology Consultation service for 1 week. They will be expected to perform 2 clinics per full week. The rest of the time will be spent in the cath lab. Weekly MDTs are available for revascularization, TAVI and endocarditis together with monthly optional meetings in ICC and PHT.On-call commitmentMiddle-grades will participate in a 1:11, full shift rota.Education0900-1300 monthly Continued Medical Education meeting Cardiology Consultants and SpRs will present cases, audit and literature reviews.0800-0900 Thursday Echocardiography Meeting:This weekly meeting is attended by the cardiology junior doctors and physiologists.   • Full registration with the GMC or GDC, holding a licence to practice
  • MRCP – part 1

Desirable

  • Other post graduate qualifications
  • Full MRCP

Knowledge and skillsEssential

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience at SpR level Cardiology experience
  • Understanding of NHS structure
  • Previous experience in PCI

Desirable

  • Experience of working with Cardiothoracic Surgical teams

ExperienceEssential

  • Evidence of completion of audit and QIP projects

Desirable

  • Experience of clinical governance and attendance at research governance training courses
  • Evidence of research interest and activity and successful completion of scientific projects
