Aston Business School is a triple accredited University (EQUIS, AACSB and AMBA) and a leading UK University for academic research (REF2021 rated 79% of Aston’s research as ‘world leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’ and 74% of research impact as ‘very considerable or ‘outstanding’). Aston prides itself on excellent teaching and business engagement. We are one of the few UK institutions with the Small Business Charter’s Gold Award. In 2020 we were The Guardian’s University of the Year and the THE’s Entrepreneurial University of the Year. We were shortlisted for THE’s University of the Year in 2021-22 and are in the QS Top 500 World University Rankings in 2022.

The Operations and Information Management Department (OIM) has three teaching groups: Global ICT/IS Management, Business Analytics, and Operations Management. In addition, we have four research centres: Advanced Services, Cybersecurity, Circular Economy, and Crisis Management. We are currently launching another in Applied Business Analytics.

The Operation Management Group specializes in people, process and technology improvement in all areas of operations and supply chain management and strategy. Teaching interests spill over into research centres across the University and beyond.

We are currently looking for research scholars specialised in the areas of humanitarian supply chains, industry 4.0, disaster operations, digitalization of business process and data (e.g. digital dashboards and real world problem solving).  Candidates should have teaching interests and experience in the areas of operations strategy, international operations, innovation, designing products and services, process design, supply chain design and management, capacity planning, inventory management, lean thinking, quality/six sigma and future directions (e.g. digitalization and data. low carbon, circular economy/sustainability).

There is a thriving teaching and learning, business engagement and research culture in the OIM Department, which has a strong reputation for being rigorous, relevant and entrepreneurial. We support participation in international conferences, teaching innovations (e.g. serious game development) and supervision of PhD/DBAs, and we encourage business engagement and corporate client opportunities (e.g. Knowledge Transfer Partnerships).

As part of our growth strategy we are seeking inspirational and highly motivated individuals to contribute to the development of the Department’s research, teaching and learning activities. We welcome discussions with prospective candidates who have interests in specified areas of simulation (see further details). We are also keen to discuss new ideas in order to strengthen our research, complement our business support provision and innovate our teaching and learning activities.

You will have a good first degree in business, management, engineering, computer science, or equivalent, as well as a higher degree in a relevant academic discipline (e.g. operations research, business analytics, industrial engineering, etc.). You must also be able to demonstrate an established or emerging path of research with links to teaching and learning, and engagement with external stakeholders. The University actively supports and finances academic and entrepreneurial spin-offs.

This post is being offered as a Lecturer in operations management. You will be appointed at a Lecturer Grade 8 or 9 depending on your qualifications, skills and experience.

The post is available to start as soon as possible.
