We are seeking to appoint the Associate Director of Greenwich Research and Innovation (GRI) which is the directorate (of c60 staff) responsible for supporting the growth and development of R&KE across the university. The role is a senior management position within the university reporting to the GRI Director but will also work closely with the Deputy Vice Chancellor (R&KE).

The Associate Director will have direct line management of the key functional units within GRI – Funding Development (focussed on business development and other pre-award activities), Contracts and IP Services and, Funding Support and Information Services. 

The Associate Director will lead on local development partnerships e.g., with local authorities of areas within which the University campuses are based to ensure the University plays a major role in local regeneration and community engagement.   This role will also lead on other strategic collaborations including the University Alliance and the U9 group.  In addition, the Associate Director, working with GRI and wider University colleagues, will plan and oversee the preparation and submission of key University returns including annual Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) related surveys, Knowledge Exchange Framework (KEF, starting with KEF4 in 2024), Research Excellence Framework (REF2028 with estimated submission date in late 2027) and Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), the latter working with the University’s Research and Enterprise Training Institute (RETI).

You will have the relevant experience and skills to lead professional services support to developing R&KE at the university to meet corporate KPIs defined for our strategy.   You will have a strong personal track record of enabling development and implementation research and/or knowledge exchange activities.  You will be an outstanding people manager, able to lead and develop a multidisciplinary team, and an excellent communicator, able to build relationships with colleagues across the university and externally. You will be a passionate advocate for the university’s R&KE activities and will be aligned with our values of being: inclusive, collaborative and impactful.
