4308 – Research and Consulting Engineer (Powder Drying and Flow)

The Wolfson Centre for Bulk Solids Handling Technology at the University of Greenwich requires an experienced addition to the team of Engineers to support Enterprise, Research, Teaching and Development work in the specialist field of bulk solids handling.  The successful applicant will augment a world-renowned team of engineers providing research and consulting services to a broad range of industry sectors.   

The successful applicant will be involved in the development and commercialisation of a new Mechanical Surface Energy test and in related matters of powder drying, flow and powder formulation. The engineer will be expected to work with specialists in many technical fields at the Centre, to utilise their expertise as well as his own.  

Activities will also include laboratory and analytical work relating to design and troubleshooting of powder formulation and industrial solids handling systems. Engagement with various research focussed projects will also be required along with teaching responsibilities to undergraduate students in the School of Engineering and to engineers in industry through short courses. 

The successful applicants’ grade will be assessed according to experience and expertise in relation to the criteria set on the person specification. 

A PhD qualification (or near completion thereof) in some aspect of powder or bulk solids technology is preferred, together with some familiarity of general engineering principles applied in industry. However, candidates with extensive relevant practical knowledge and experience will also be considered.  

Experience in development of experimental techniques related to particle-surface interaction will be a significant advantage, as will experience with the development and use of digital tools to aid powder formulation. A track-record of hands-on skills in laboratory and/or practical engineering work is essential.  

The ideal candidate will also need to have well developed communication skills, and be prepared to represent The Wolfson Centre to industry clients and research groups in a way that will impress.   

This post is for one year and hours of work will be full time, but we expect flexibility for suitable candidates to make early starts and/or late finishes when travel or workload requires.
