A2R Head of Tax Compliance, EMEA – Opella (a Sanofi company) – Budapest – HybridThe A2R Head of Tax Compliance, EMEA position at Opella (a Sanofi Company) in Budapest offers an exciting leadership opportunity in one of the world’s largest consumer healthcare businesses. With a hybrid work setup, this role provides an opportunity to manage and optimize tax services across the EMEA region, while working closely with various internal and external stakeholders.Key Responsibilities:

  • Tax Service Delivery: Oversee tax calculations (including VAT, WHT, Intrastat, country income tax, and deferred tax) to ensure timely and accurate preparation of tax returns, aligned with the closing calendar.
  • Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of 7-10 tax accountants, ensuring their professional development, effective resource allocation, and addressing any complex issues they face. You’ll play an integral role in the recruitment, performance evaluation, and coaching of your team members.
  • Process and System Optimization: Lead efforts to improve and streamline A2R tax processes, ensuring harmonization of tools and simplifying the user experience across regions. This includes collaborating with IT and global teams to implement changes that enhance operational efficiency and compliance.
  • Compliance & Risk Management: Monitor compliance with internal controls, SOX requirements, and group accounting policies. You’ll also be the go-to person for managing external audits, responding to tax authorities’ queries, and addressing potential risks or issues within the tax process.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with departments like Finance Performance, Treasury, and Supply Chain, as well as external service providers, to ensure smooth tax process execution and alignment with broader business goals. You will also partner with the central tax team to implement tax strategies and monitor their execution.
  • Strategic Communication: Regularly report to senior management, providing insights on tax compliance and process performance. Your ability to effectively communicate complex tax matters to diverse stakeholders will be key to your success.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Tax & Accounting Expertise: At least 8 years of experience in tax accounting, ideally in an international or multicultural environment. Strong knowledge of A2R processes, IFRS, and local GAAP is essential.
  • Leadership & Team Management: Proven track record in leading and developing a tax team, ensuring high performance, and delivering results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Problem-Solving & Analytical Skills: Strong ability to identify critical tax issues, propose solutions, and implement changes effectively.
  • Effective Communication: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels of the organization and external partners.
  • Fluency in English: Proficiency in English (C1 or higher) is mandatory as it is the primary language of communication across the organization.
  • Tax advisor certificate or equivalent or at least 3 years professional experience gained as Tax Advisor at Big 4 or any Tier 2 public accounting firm– as must have
  • ACCA as good to have
