At the Department of Molecular Biology, at Aarhus University we are looking for a new colleague to develop modern digital teaching methods and materials across courses and disciplines on the BSc education Molecular Biology and Molecular Medicine.Expected start date and duration of employmentYou will be employed at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics starting 15 August 2025 or soon hereafter. The position is full time and will expire on 14 August 2027. The position is financed by a grant from the Novo Nordisk Foundation.Tasks In connection with the establishment of a new education in molecular biology and molecular medicine, we wish to combine subject-specific digital elements with core academic skills with the aim of developing the students’ competences in data management and analysis, programming, and the use of digital technologies within the fields of molecular biology and molecular medicine. This position will help support teaching staff at the department in developing and applying new teaching materials focused on digital competences across disciplines and courses. Thus, the position has both didactic and technical components.Job Description You will be responsible for the development and implementation of teaching materials and digital solutions to provide our students with a digital mindset and competences that prepare them for a future career in the life sciences. A particular focus point is the exposure to and training of Python programming via the platform JupyterLab in both theoretical and laboratory exercises across the degree programmes. In this capacity, you will assist in the design and conceptual development as well as technical setup and, if necessary, in liaising with external partners.
You are expected to take a proactive approach in engaging with teaching staff and students to assist in developing exercises and teaching materials, in particular for those lecturers who do not currently work with digital tools and/or programming. The position will also involve participation in teaching.The activities will initially focus on the biochemistry track on the new education but rapidly extend to other subject areas. You will refer the project’s steering committee, which includes courses responsible teachers Kasper Munch, Magnus Kjærgaard, Gregers Rom Andersen, and Ditlev Egeskov Brodersen as well as the department’s vice head of department for education, Charlotte Rohde Knudsen.Your profileYou should hold an MSc or a PhD degree in molecular biology, molecular medicine, or a related relevant field. Prior experience with courses taught on the existing educations at the department is advantageous. Hands-on experience with teaching at the university level is also desirable.
The role requires you to be structured and goal-oriented, with a proactive approach to dialogue, strong collaboration skills, and the ability to meet deadlines. You should have an interest in bioinformatics and possess programming competences in Python and preferentially also in R, enabling you to contribute to the development of exercises from the beginning. Excellent communication skills in both oral and written Danish and English are a requirement.Who we areThe Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics is part of the Faculty of Natural Sciences at Aarhus University and conducts research and teaching in all areas of molecular biology, with sections specialising in Plant Molecular Biology, Neurobiology, RNA Biology and Innovation, Protein Science, and Cellular Health, Intervention and Nutrition. The department currently offers degree programmes in Molecular Biology and Molecular Medicine, but the two BSc programmes will be merged into a single programme from 2025. The department has approximately 150 academic staff, 70 technical and administrative staff, 80 PhD students, and 450 BSc and MSc students.What we offer
