We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Assistant Biodiversity Officer to join our
dedicated Environment and Ecology team. The successful candidate will play a key role in
coordinating and delivering the Urban Ecology programme, focusing on community engagement,
environmental education, and biodiversity conservation.
About Us:
Gasworks Dock Partnership (GDP), a registered charity based in the East London Borough
of Newham, is leading the regeneration and development of Cody Dock into a Creative Industries
and Community Quarter.
Our new Urban Ecology programme has been co-designed and shaped by the needs of local
residents and their desires to be included in the transformation of their local area. With new
facilities and improved accessibility it is a fantastic time to help grow our already extensive
programme of activities and increase participation in conservation work, climate action and
environmental education.
The Urban Ecology programme aims to engage local people with the nature spaces on their
doorstep, and explore the ecology of this largely overlooked region of the city, on the River
Lea. The Assistant Biodiversity Officer will be working as part of the Environment and Ecology
team to coordinate and deliver the Urban Ecology programme in line with existing seasonal and
national ecological monitoring projects.
This programme is supported by the National Lottery Community Fund: Climate Action
Fund with a focus on monitoring the population health of key taxonomic groups and working
with a range of volunteers on habitat enhancement projects at Cody Dock and the surrounding
area. This new position is supported by the Fund and created to assist the Biodiversity
Officer with the delivery of the Urban Ecology programme.
See the
detailed job description for details of the key tasks and responsibilities and person
specification for this role.
GDP is committed to being an equal opportunities employer and encourages candidates
from all backgrounds.
About You:
You will be an enthusiastic individual with great relationship management skills,
excellent communication skills and possess an in-depth knowledge of urban ecology, biological
monitoring, and practical conservation work.
You will be highly organised, collaborative, proactive and experienced. You will have a
friendly and approachable manner, with the emotional intelligence to lead creatively and
empower others to maximise their strengths. You will be a diplomatic communicator, able to
facilitate and build relationships with a range of stakeholders.
You will understand the needs of Gasworks Dock Partnership and the context in which we
operate.
