A leading planning consultancy based in Derby is seeking an Assistant Ecologist with a Field Identification Skills Certificate (FISC) Level 3 to join their dynamic team. Overview
As an Assistant Ecologist, you will play a key role in supporting the consultancy’s ecological services. You will work alongside a team of experienced professionals, providing ecological expertise to inform planning and development projects. Responsibilities
* Conduct ecological surveys, including habitat and species surveys, in line with industry standards.
* Assist in the preparation of ecological reports, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs) and Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs).
* Provide support in the delivery of mitigation strategies and biodiversity enhancement plans.
* Liaise with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with ecological and planning legislation.
* Maintain accurate records of fieldwork and ensure data is managed effectively.
* Stay up-to-date with relevant ecological and environmental policies, legislation, and best practices.
Requirements
* Hold a Field Identification Skills Certificate (FISC) Level 3 or equivalent qualification.
* A degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
* Demonstrable experience in conducting ecological surveys and assessments.
Desirable qualifications and skills include:
* Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., CIEEM).
* Experience in using GIS software for mapping and analysis.
* Protected species survey licences (e.g., bats, great crested newts).
The role involves;
* Conducting field surveys to assess habitats and species on development sites.
* Collaborating with colleagues to analyse survey data and prepare reports.
* Attending client meetings to discuss project requirements and ecological considerations.
