Offer DescriptionRECTOR of the Jagiellonian University announces a selection procedure for the position of an ASSISTANT PROFESSOR – job advertisement no 246.2025Project title: Opus 21, “Size matters: How a blastocyst’s size affects offspring health” PSP: K/PBO/000896The research group is located at the Malopolska Centre of Biotechnology, Krakow.The project will verify how the donor embryo affects the pregnancy of the recipient mouse. Both embryonic and maternal organs will be studied to determine the impact of the embryo transfer procedure itself and the pregnancy following transfer of a foreign (non-self) embryo. The project aims to verify possible immunological disorders in the mother and the offspring. In addition, tissues from adult mice obtained after embryo transfer will be analysed to assess the full development and long-term health of the offspring.Type of employment: Fixed-term employment contractWorking time: Full timePlanned duration of employment: 20 monthsExpected date of employment commencement: 4 quarter 2025The successful candidate’s daily tasks will include:

Preparation of work for publication.Where to apply E-mail[email protected]RequirementsResearch Field Biological sciences » Other Education Level PhD or equivalentSkills/QualificationsThe selection procedure is open for all individuals, who meet the requirements set out in Articles 113 and 116.2.3) of the Act of 20 July 2018 – Law on Higher Education and Science, and who meet the following eligibility criteria according to § 165 of the Statute of the Jagiellonian University:
- holding at least a doctoral degree;
- having relevant scientific achievements;
- taking active part in scientific life.
Additional qualification criteria required for employment (listed according to the hierarchy of importance)The ideal candidate’s profile:
1. Fulfil requirements stemming from Regulations on awarding funding for research tasks funded by the National Science Centre as regards research projects in the post_doc position in particular:
a) Obtaining a doctoral degree either in the year of employment in the project or within a period of 7 years prior to January 1, 2024. (This period may be extended by the duration of any documented long-term (over 90 days) sick leave or rehabilitation benefits during this time, due to incapacity for work. Additionally, the period may be extended by the number of months spent on parental or caregiving leave granted under the provisions of the Labour Code. In the case of women, the period may further be extended by 18 months for each child born or adopted, if such a method of indicating career breaks is more beneficial.)
b) The project leader (prof. dr hab. inż. Grażyna Ptak) was neither the supervisor nor the assistant supervisor of the candidate’s doctoral dissertation.
c) Obtaining a doctoral degree at an institution other than the one where employment in this position is planned, i.e., Jagiellonian University, or completing a continuous, documented postdoctoral fellowship of at least 10 months at an institution other than the one implementing the project and in a country different from the one where the doctoral degree was obtained.2. Possession of a doctoral degree in biology, biotechnology, chemistry, medicine (including veterinary medicine), animal science or other related scientific discipline.
3. Possession of at least one year’s experience in laboratory work in cell biology, molecular biology, developmental biology or embryology
4. Publication of at least one scientific article in a peer-reviewed journal as first author (if there is a specific reason for non-publication, e.g. long-term review process, patent application, etc., please state it in the application).
5. Demonstrated ability to collaborate in a research group.
6. A focus on self-development and a desire to establish a research career in an area related to the focus of the project.

Selection processThe first stage of the selection procedure is the formal assessment of the submitted documents. During the interview, the soft competencies indicated in the announcement will also be verified.
The Candidate has the right to appeal against the negative assessment by the selection board within 7 days from receiving the information about the results of the assessment.
