Description The School of Social and Behavioral Sciences (SSBS) in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) at the University of New England (UNE) invites applications for an assistant teaching professor in sociology, with a focus in medical sociology, critical race theory, or gender and sexuality studies of particular interest, starting in August 2024. The successful candidate will join a collegial, engaged team of faculty and professional staff in a school offering programs in sociology, psychology, criminology, neuroscience, animal behavior, political science, global studies, and applied social and cultural studies.

Responsibilities The school seeks candidates to teach undergraduate courses, including topics such as Introduction to Sociology; Sociological Methods; Race, Class, and Gender; Theories of Race and Racism; Sociology of Aging, and others that fit within the candidate’s expertise or the program’s needs. The typical teaching load is the equivalent of 12 credits per semester. Additionally, the successful candidate will also engage in curriculum development and participate in academic advising, recruiting, course and program assessment, and service to the school, college and University.
Qualifications A master’s degree in sociology or a closely related field is required at the time of appointment; preference will be given to candidates with a Ph.D. or to those with a combination of professional experience and education that provide commensurate qualifications.
