Location: Primarily based at Singleton Campus

This post is based within the Department of Economics, which is situated in the School of Social Sciences.  The Department currently consists of twenty academic staff with a varying number of research officers and a thriving community of post graduate research students.

The Department of Economics is seeking to strengthen further our research activities by building on, complementing and/or expanding research areas already in existence within the department. We have particular strengths in labour economics, macroeconomics, regional economics, monetary economics, energy economics and econometrics. We value interdisciplinary research and believe in the importance of obtaining external funds to support our research. Along with the School of Management, the Department of Economics submitted to the Business and Management Panel in REF2021, and will similarly be submitting to UoA17 for the next REF.

Alongside its research activity, the department prides itself on its vibrant undergraduate, postgraduate and PGR programmes.   The department has close connections with numerous educational bodies and has received repeated external recognition for its teaching activities, including the receipt of funding and awards for pedagogical innovations.       

Research activities within the Department are supported by:

  • A Research Hub providing support on research funding
  • A dedicated bid-writer to support grant applications
  • Substantial personal research/development allowances
  • A sabbatical programme
