As associate professor of Extended Reality(XR) you will contribute to the department’s research and teaching environment and to the faculty’s overall research strategy. You will contribute to the development of the department both independently and in collaboration with others via your research of high international quality. You ensure that your teaching maintains a high academic and didactic standard. You possess excellent collaborative skills and a broad academic network which you can bring into play in your contribution to the academic development of Aalborg University and its profile both nationally and internationally.We are seeking a highly qualified candidate with expertise in Extended Reality(XR) and Media technologies, both technically and theoretically, and their application in improving accessibility and quality of life for individuals with disabilities. The successful candidate will have:
- Research Excellence: A strong research profile in XR technologies with a demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and evaluate XR solutions that support individuals with disabilities. Experience with programming, user-centered design, accessibility, and interaction paradigms in XR is highly valued.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: A proven track record of collaborating with external partners, such as schools, rehabilitation centers, social care organizations, and other societal stakeholders, to translate research into impactful real-world applications.
- Teaching and Course Development: Experience in teaching and supervising students at both undergraduate and graduate levels, with the ability to contribute to programming, interaction design, spatial user interfaces and immersive design- and technology courses. The candidate should also be prepared to take on teaching responsibilities in other related areas as needed.
The Associate Professor will be expected to actively contribute to the department’s research environment, attract external funding, help with recruitment and retention of students and engage in interdisciplinary collaborations.Your main tasks will consist of:
- Research of high international quality, including publication in top international journals and communicating your research in national and international academic networks.
- Teaching and supervision of bachelor’s and master’s degree students and contribution to the development of new teaching activities.
- To contribute to the funding with the help of external research funding.
- Supervision of PhD students and contributing to the development of the faculty’s PhD courses.
- Involvement in assessment and committee work at Aalborg University.
- Dissemination of your research to the outside world.
Your competencesCandidates should meet the following criteria:
- A PhD in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, Media Technology, or a related field.
- A strong publication record in leading international conferences and journals in XR, HCI, accessibility, or related fields.
- Documented experience in designing and conducting XR research projects
- Demonstrated experience in securing external research funding.
- Experience with stakeholder-driven research, including collaboration with municipalities or organizations.
- A strong teaching portfolio, with documented experience in delivering courses in programming, interaction design, and immersive technologies.
- The ability to contribute to the development of new courses and programs in related areas.
You have established yourself with a prominent, independent research profile within the XR field of research and possess documented solid research and teaching qualifications at a high international level, as well as you have experience with academic leadership tasks in a research group. You have broad international cooperative partnerships and experience of collaborations with private and public-sector organizations. At the same time, you have experience of applying for funding from national and international funding bodies. It is an advantage if you have stayed or been employed at one or more internationally recognized research institutions. You can build relationships based on trust with students, colleagues and partners. As a lecturer you communicate the newest and relevant knowledge in a committed, clear and comprehensible manner.
