This is a very valuble new role in our Development Management team within the Planning Service
to provide additional specialist expertise to support planning and ecology colleagues and
applicants to successfully delivery BNG, nature recovery and ecological improvements across
Stroud district.

The post holder will shape and drive the delivery of biodiversity net gain in the district by
addressing the local challenges to its implementation, exploring opportunities and proactively
embedding BNG early in the planning process.

About the role

The role will look to make a difference by ensuring that new development protects and enhances
biodiversity for future generations.

The main responsibility will include:

  • Implementation of BNG,
  • Providing BNG preapp advice,
  • Critical assessment of Biodiversity Metric calculations, BNG statements and biodiversity
    gain plans.
  • Provision of advice and negotiate on design and delivery of BNG solutions;
  • Working with partners within the Local Nature Recovery Partnership and other statutory
    agencies.

This is an exciting opportunity to help shape how we implement BNG within our area and as part
of our wider Nature Recovery Network.

About you

You will be a qualified ecologist with demonstrable understanding of the principles of
biodiversity net gain, the requirements of the Environment Act and other relevant legislation
and policy. Ideally you will have an understanding of the planning process and the ecological
context within Development Management.
