North Devon UNESCO Biosphere Foundation is delighted to have been successful in its bid to the
Lottery’s Climate Action Fund for £869,000 to deliver an exciting 4 year project “Biosphere
Communities”. A creative spectrum of activities will aim to empower young people to become
champions for change in their communities, for nature recovery and climate change.

A network of
experts from across Northern Devon will mentor, guide and support communities, building
knowledge and skills to deliver real local sustainable solutions. To deliver the Project, we’re
looking to recruit a dynamic, driven and experienced Project Co-ordinator.

Overview

  • Total project cost is £869K, delivered over 4 years starting April 2024
  • The Co-ordinator will manage a 0.6 FTE Project Administrator and 4 x 0.5 FTE ‘community animators’ drawn from 8 community hubs
  • Direct-funded partners DWT and WRT house 0.5 FTE each
  • Full suite of activities delivered through these staff as well as wider bank of expert partners
  • Project Steering Group to sit under the Biosphere Reserve Partnership

Five key outcomes:

  • Community-led climate action that is further reaching and better connected
  • Community-led climate action that is better equipped (knowledge, skills, attitudes, resources, energies), more resilient
  • Strengthened green careers and a larger green economy, providing more opportunities for local young people
  • Communities which are increasingly nature-rich and better placed to tackle and mitigate the climate challenge
  • Established community hubs which can access expert advice and cascade support and links out to the wider community
