The Role:

The role will crucially develop meaningful relationships with businesses located on Westminster’s key high streets and will involve working in the heart of the community several days a week. This particular role will mostly be based in the Paddington, Edgware Road & Bayswater areas to support the delivery of the Paddington & Bayswater High Streets Programme. The role will also have scope to work on other iconic high streets within the borough as well. The postholder will act as a single dedicated point of contact for businesses, helping to resolve day to day enquiries, convene business association meetings, address challenges through proactive problem solving, promote and deliver business support interventions through collaborative, multidisciplinary approaches that will result in improved outcomes for our high street businesses. The postholders will have responsibility for shaping and delivering a robust and bespoke business support offer through the High Streets Programme that is based on local need within the Paddington & Bayswater area. Examples of schemes will include shop front improvement schemes, business resilience interventions, upskilling and scale-up programmes. This is an exciting opportunity to revitalise our high streets.

The postholder’s will work closely with other council teams, Ward Councillors, community and business representative groups, and other stakeholders across the business & enterprise landscape. The postholder will ensure the delivery of meaningful outcomes for Westminster’s communities.

About You:

An established professional with knowledge of Westminster’s business base and the challenges facing local businesses, you’ll have experience of developing and delivering economic development projects. You’ll have an excellent understanding of the local, regional and national landscape of business and enterprise support, with the ability to proactively identify new opportunities and build meaningful relationships with businesses to reach innovative and positive solutions. You’ll have experience of delivering projects right through from scoping to final evaluation, with a focus on choosing effective courses of action across multiple concurrent workstreams.

On a personal level, you’ll be personable, adaptable, empathetic self-motivated and passionate about delivering the best possible services to our local business community. You’ll be a natural communicator with extensive stakeholder engagement and management experience, and excellent record keeping skills.
