The Hospital has 450 adult beds with over 4,000 people on staff and more than 60 different nationalities represented. The Hospital is a provider of local, regional and national specialties. It is a designated trauma unit incorporating the National Pelvic and Acetabular Unit, a regional Urology Centre and the second largest provider of renal dialysis services in the country.One of the two main academic teaching hospitals of Trinity College Dublin – TUH specialise in the training and professional development of staff in areas such as Medicine, Nursing, Health and Social Care Professionals. The hospital is currently rolling out an ambitious E-Health Programme. TUH’s Digital Enabled Care Strategy is fully established with a number of project streams underway.As part of TUH’s data strategy, TUH Business Intelligence Team is in an opportune moment as it looks to leverage more from its vast array of data. The vast amount of data being collected from multiple systems will provide TUH with a “single source of truth” in terms of decision making and allow the hospital to gain valuable insights. The Business Intelligence team are currently expanding our Data Warehouse to facilitate the data needs of the hospital and evolving how we present data.The Business Intelligence Analyst will have a passion for data. They will be of a mind-set that delivers reporting/dashboards that provides data insights that “speak” to the End-Users. They will be a key member of the Business Intelligence Team within Tallaght University hospital (TUH).Overview of RoleKey Duties and ResponsibilitiesService
- Gather and understand requirements, and manage relationships with end users to develop dashboards for management reporting of KPIs and data insights
- Assist in the development of comprehensive data reports and visualization tools that represent data in a clear and concise manner to support business managers and executives in making business decisions.
- Support self-service reporting for various business units by identifying data sources and coaching business users on how best to access and analyze it
- Development of training documentation and training to users and managers in the use of the business intelligence applications as applicable.
- Work as part of the Team in the development of policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Administering application databases and data warehouse solution, maintaining aspects of the various data models and common data dictionaries within TUH.
- Provide information extracts and ad hoc reporting as required.
- Keep informed of key organisational and national developments in both the healthcare and technical fields.
- Delivery of timely solutions to meet a growing business demands ensuring solutions are accurate and relevant.
- Participate in the development and Operation of a Customer Service Desk and provide outstanding customer service and follow up.
- Participate in the design/Implementation of BI technical and operational architecture / frameworks.
- Collaborate with the Data analytics team to turn data into critical information and knowledge that can be used to make sound business decisions;
- Work as part of ICT Team in the provision of support in other areas in the absence of appropriate staff or as directed.
- Perform any other relevant duties as may be required from time to time.
Skillset associated with the role
- Demonstrate ability to deliver reports/dashboards that speak to the End-user.
- Previous data analytics and data modelling experience
- Experience with any visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, Qlik etc.)
- Experience using T-SQL
- Strong MS Excel skills
- Demonstrate excellent presentation and report writing skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate at all levels.

- Develop and manage relationships internally within the ICT department, the overall Hospital and with external bodies and vendors as necessary
- Liaise with regulatory bodies (e.g. HIQA, HSE) re standards, guidelines, etc. as required.
- Completion of relevant training and availing of supports in the Leadership Academy including coaching, mentoring and leadership development as applicable.
Service Delivery:
- Participate procurements for relevant software and technologies where appropriate
- Process financial transactions
- Budgetary management (as required)
- Manage and oversee staff (as assigned)
Research:
- Research and develop those areas that will both improve the quality of service provision and reduce costs (as required)
- Provide support to other research projects that rely on the use of ICT.
Training:
- Fulfilling responsibilities for all mandatory and hospital mandated training (e.g. health and safety).
- Commitment to continuous professional development including completion of relevant internal training programmes available through our Centre for Learning & Development Prospectus.
Communication:
- Provide briefings to ICT and Hospital staff as required
- Liaise with staff regularly, sharing experience and skills as appropriate.
Policy and Information:
- Work with the ICT Senior Management Team to deploy best practice ICT policies, procedures, processes and process frameworks.
Risk Management:
- Contribute to a quality patient safety and risk culture
Representation
- Work on external, national and Hospital group initiatives for the betterment of the hospital in general as required or as nominated by the Hospital.
Partnership Working:
- Work on quality reviews, performance management, etc.
- Significant input into liaison and management of work programme to deliver business systems
Key Working Relationships:
- Develop and maintain strong relationships, working closely with a number of staff including developing good knowledge of the organizational aims, objectives and initiatives so as to provide meaningful expert advice.
- Communicate and provide information to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders including Executive Management team, Clinical directors, HSE, HIQA, Hospital Groups and external service providers.
- Commit to working and engaging constructively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Nurture key relationships and maintain networks internally and externally, including national networks.
- Support collaborative working across ICT and other stakeholders as relevant
Qualifications & Experience requiredMust have one of the following:
- Have qualification in Data Analytics or related discipline with minimum Fetac level 6 or equivalent
- Have satisfactory relevant experience which encompasses demonstrable equivalent skills in Data Analytics
- 3 years relevant experience, 2 of which include Data Analytics experience
And
- Practical experience of use of computer packages to include Microsoft Office i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and other related packages
- Fluent command and understanding of the English language to include spoken and written word
Desirable:
- Experience with any visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, Qlik etc.)
- Third Level Qualification in Data Analytics or related discipline
- Proven experience of working in a complex and diverse ICT/ Data Analytical function in a large organisation, preferably Healthcare
- Knowledge and experience with databases (SQL Server, Oracle, Sybase) or any other programming language
Reward & Recognition
- Remuneration is in accordance with the Department of Health Consolidated Salary Scales, grade code 0566
- The appointment is whole time, permanent and pensionable
- The annual leave entitlement is 29 working days per year. The leave year runs from 1st April to the 31st of March each year
- Normal working hours are 35 worked over 5 days. Your contracted hours of work are liable to change between the hours of 8 am to 8 pm over 7 days to meet the requirements for extended day services in accordance with the terms of the Framework Agreement
