This call describes the details of your PhD at our program, and the steps in the application process to follow.1. Ensuring a match between you and a potential supervisor is important to grant access to the PhD program, and one of the scholarships.The Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of the Universidad Pontificia Comillas has been fastly growing in research, and its staff is associated with all major businesses, policy institutions and academia at international level.2. Your ResearchAs a PhD, you will have the chance to join a recognised, prestigious research group. You will be working in close collaboration with your supervisor.As a PhD, we expect you to work on your research, and you will be supported by your supervisor and our staff. You will get research training activities over the year, most of which are related to methodological and skills training.During your PhD, you will be encouraged to move for a research stay at associate universities that are part of the program.You will also have an opportunity to participate in teaching provided by the University.All this will allow the candidate to develop skills related to research and management of R+D+I, and to gain experience in research and teaching, enabling you to access academic positions in private or public institutions, as well as jobs in companies.3. Aims of the PhDYou will have the opportunity to become part of the research team at Universidad Pontificia Comillas so to eventually be equipped to carry out independent research in the academic and/or business domains upon completion of the PhD studies.Our PhD programme comprises three universities: University of Deusto, Universidad Pontificia Comillas and Ramon Llull University, all three of which have a deep commitment to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Eligibility requirementsThere are 3 requirements to be eligible for the application to the PhD program.Requirement a) Candidates should meet the admission requirements by means of their previous studies.This means that to be admitted to an official PhD program, according to Article 6 of Royal Decree 99/2011, a candidate should:Hold an official Spanish university degree, or one from the European Higher Education Area, granting access to a Master’s (pursuant to that established in Article 16 of Royal Decree 1393/2007 of 29 October) and have passed a minimum of 300 ECTS credits including all official university studies, of which at least 60 must have been at a Master’s level.Or hold a degree from a foreign university. Foreign degrees need to be validated prior to application. This implies that the candidate will have to provide evidence showing that the level of the foreign tittle is equivalent to an official Spanish Master’s degree and that, in the issuing country, it grants access to doctoral studies. Admission by this route shall not imply, in any case, that the aforementioned degree has been recognised for any purpose other than undertaking this Ph.D. program.Or hold an official university degree that has been classified as being equivalent to Level 3 of the QF-EHEA, pursuant to the procedure established in Royal Decree 967/2014, of 21 November.If you have completed a Master of Research, this will be considered an advantage.Requirement b) Candidates should provide evidence of excellent undergraduate and Master’s grades.Requirement c) Certificate of proficiency in English, equivalent to a level C1The certification may be verified by submitting the documents proving the level required, or through the tests arranged by the University’s Institute of Modern Languages. The doctoral program is fully taught in English, hence a knowledge of Spanish ,to level A2 (pre-intermediate) of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages is not required, but may be useful.Specific RequirementsThe application procedure is divided in two steps: in step 1, you must submit the necessary documents; in step 2, we revise your application and hold interviews with pre-selected candidates.We work with a rolling deadline for the submission of applications. The earlier you apply, the higher your chances, as we will award grants early on.Note that the position starts on September 1st . We help with contracts and paperwork related to your arrival, but it is your responsibility to obtain a visa in time. We process admissions quickly but allow for a sufficient amount of time (at least 4 months) to process visa submissions.Each step is described in detail below.Step 1: the candidate must submit the following documents on this page1. Copy of your National Identification: this can be your national ID or passport.2. Curriculum Vitae.3. Academic transcripts: these include all academic (university) grades you achieved so far.If you have not finished your studies yet, a temporary grade sheet issued by your university is acceptable, but your acceptance is conditional upon submitting the final grade sheet. If you finished your studies at Universidad Pontificia Comillas, an informative note issued by the Secretary Office of the University shall suffice.Applicants who have completed their studies abroad and have academic transcripts issued in languages other than Spanish can initially send this document, and if we cannot understand the language, a simple translation is fine. Upon acceptance, candidates must submit a corresponding certified translation. The transcript should state the maximum and minimum grades within the corresponding assessment system; similarly, the minimum mark required for passing the course should be stated.4. A cover letter: including your previous experience, achievements and strengths, your motivation for the position, skills and attitudes, as well as future projects along with the line of research in which they wish to develop your academic career.5. Language Accreditation: certificates of your knowledge of English.6. A research proposal: the candidate must outline a research proposal as follows:Title of the research project.An abstract: a brief description of the research problem, including details of the literature that your research will address (maximum 200 words).Aims and objectives of the research project (maximum 500 words).A literature review (maximum 1000 words). Provide a critical analysis of the existing literature and use the literature to justify the need for your proposed research. This may include questions such as which literature informs your topic and why? Where specifically are you positioning your proposed research within the field? What are the key sources? What are the key theories, concepts and ideas? What are the major issues and debates about the topic? Broadly, what is the state-of-the-art about the topic? What deficiencies are there in the literature and how might your proposed topic address them.Methodology (maximum 250 words). Briefly describe how you would approach your methodological analysis.The potential impact of your research (maximum 800 words). Who would benefit from your research? What are your plans for user engagement and communication?7. The contact details of at least two references: we will ask recommendation letters from university professors (who are not part of Universidad Pontificia Comillas), or from relevant individuals who have an academic or professional relationship with the applicant. You must provide the phone number and e-mail of these references.Step 2: Each request is assessed by the Admissions Committee that includes the Vice-Dean for Research and International Affairs of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of Universidad Pontificia Comillas, and the three members of the Doctoral Commission.The Board considers the different achievements of the candidate, and might proceed to an interview with selected candidates.
