Call for Applications: Short Term Assignments in UNESCO Field Offices and ADM/ADS

OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST

ADM/ADS is seeking candidates for short term assignments designed to provide interim AO support to Field Offices and/or the Section for Administrative Support. These assignments are intended for a time span of 1 to 6 months. Only staff members at General Service (G-6 or G-7) and Professional level (P-1/P-2 and P-3), holding Fixed-Terms positions at HQs or Field Offices are eligible to apply.

The assignments do not entail any expectation of filling a vacant post and do not imply any change in the selected candidate’s current contractual terms, conditions or remuneration packages.

The selected candidates will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Provide operational support, advice and guidance on administration, budget, financial, human resources, premises-related and security matters.
  • Ensure adherence to UNESCO’s policies, rules and regulations and contribute to the correct functioning of the internal control systems.
  • Contribute to the development of capacities in administrative units and enable succession planning.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement of internal administrative working methods and processes and share best practices.

Duration

The assignment will be from 1 to 6 months. If the selected candidate is required to travel to another Duty Station, the trip will be considered as official mission. For Short Term Assignment missions of more than 30 days, a reduced DSA rate will be applied.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • University degree in finance, business administration, accounting, or closely related fields.

Work Experience

  • At least 3 years (for P-1/P-2 positions) and 4 years (for P-3 positions) of relevant experience in the area of administration and finance. Experience in HR combined with finance and/or accounting training could be considered.

Skills and Competencies

  • Ability to identify issues and formulate options/recommendations
  • Ability to solve routine and non-routine issues in the field of Human Resources, finance and budget.
  • Ability to provide quality and timely support and services.
  • Ability to lead, manage and motivate staff and teams.
  • Ability to take initiative and seek innovative ways to improve results.
  • Knowledge of UNESCO’s financial, human resources and administrative management tools.
  • Satisfactory performance reports.

Languages

  • Excellent knowledge of English or French.
  • Other official UN languages would be an asset.
