In order to maximise performance in complex, networked, and dynamic systems, the research focusses on creating control structures that are robust and scalable. Water resource management, smart grids, urban transportation, sustainable agritech solutions, and renewable energy systems are among the main topics of focus. Utilising cutting-edge control strategies like multi-agent systems, optimisation under uncertainty, and AI-driven decision-making is intended to increase system resilience, lower environmental impact, and boost energy efficiency. In order to solve issues with global sustainability, this subject also looks into autonomous system coordination, real-time data integration, and the concepts of the circular economy. Through clever and flexible solutions, the objective is to promote innovation in engineering techniques that promote sustainable development.Research GroupThe research group, led by professors Roberto Sacile, Simona Sacone, Enrico Zero, Cecilia Pasquale, and Silvia Siri, operates within the Laboratory of Industrial Automation, focusing on advanced control systems and their applications in diverse fields. Specifically, the group is specialized in the development of innovative methodologies for logistics, transportation systems, environmental monitoring, and modeling. A key area of expertise is the transport of dangerous goods, encompassing risk evaluation and mitigation strategies to ensure safety and sustainability. The team leverages interdisciplinary approaches, combining industrial automation principles with optimization techniques, simulation models, and decision-support tools. Their work also addresses the challenges posed by complex, dynamic systems in urban and industrial environments, with a particular emphasis on sustainable development and risk management.Beyond applied research and involvment in different master courses, the group has a strong academic output, contributing extensively to international publications and fostering collaborations with industry and public institutions. Candidates will have the opportunity to engage in cutting-edge research, access state-of-the-art facilities, and collaborate on projects that address pressing societal and environmental challenges. For further insight into the team’s expertise and ongoing projects, consult their academic CVs and related publications available online.ApplicationAn expression of interest shall be sent to prof. Roberto Sacile ( , Orcid ID: ) .
