Can you handle it?As a GMP Call Handler you will be the first point of contact offering immediate emergency telephone support to the diverse communities of Greater Manchester.Our offerThe contact management team at Greater Manchester Police respond to 2 million calls for help annually. As a part of our team you will demonstrate compassion, resilience, respect, problem solving and teamwork.You will be on the frontline, helping people and responding to some of the most difficult situations. This is a tough role but rewarding – your contribution will make a difference to the people and communities of Greater Manchester and will save lives.You will be responsible for managing digital and telephone contact which will include emergency 999 calls. You will have the ability to remain calm, work well under pressure and identify and record vital details quickly and accurately. This will take place between 7.30 and 12 noon at GMP Sedgley Park, Sedgley Park Rd, Prestwich, Manchester M25 0JT. All applications are treated on a first come, first serve basis as there are limited slots available for the Assessment .Please note, if appointed, the initial training course will be five weeks, Monday to Friday (0800-1600hrs) commencing 27/08/2024 followed by mentoring on a 24/7 shift basis. No leave will be granted/accepted during the training/ mentoring period. If you have any Annual leave pre-booked during the training period (27/08/2024 to 05/11/2024), please do not attend the Assessment as you will be unable to be progressed for the August Intake.These posts are based at Force Headquarters, Northampton Rd, Manchester, M40 5BP and Claytonbrook Operational Communications Room, 2 Claytonbrook Road, Openshaw M11 1PP.These posts attract 20% shift allowance and 14.46% weekend enhancement. In the context of EEA nationals, we are content that pre-settled status counts as free from restrictions.Greater Manchester Police have been informed of potential personal tax implications for members of the 1987 Police Pension Scheme, who retire and take a pension between the ages of 50 and 54 inclusive and then take up employment as a Police Staff member. Members of the police pension scheme whose age is between 50 and 54 who are re-employed as a Police Staff member have to meet certain conditions to keep their PPA and to protect against personal tax liability charges on any payments paid before the age of 55. One of those conditions is that a break of at least 1 month is required where the re-employment is ‘materially different’.
