An excellent opportunity for a Cell Technician  to join a well-established, exciting and growing Lithium-ion space business. The company designs, manufacturers and qualifies batteries for international space missions on satellites, launchers, and interplanetary vehicles. The company’s customer’s include both national and international space agencies like NASA and European Space Agency as well as working across the commercial market supporting missions that include Earth observation, internet of things satellite constellations and global positioning systems. The position is based in the Culham Science Centre near Abingdon in Oxfordshire and is a job that can truly impact people across the globe.

Job Purpose

The Cell Technician is responsible for supporting test work within the Cell Engineering team

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The role is responsible for builds within the department. These include, but are not limited to:
o Life test modules
o Vibration modules
o Tagging cells for testing
o Electrical harnesses
 

The role supports external tests. This includes, but is not limited to:
o Vibration
o Shock
o Thermal vacuum

• The role is responsible for the Build Quality testing, including destructive parts analysis of Li-ion cells
• The role is responsible for cell preparation for external testing
• The role supports the preparation of cells for Cell Engineering tests, e.g. storage life tests, He leak, vent/burst pressure
• The role is responsible for completing documentation and recording all activities and data from designated tests
• The role supports inspection of cells on long term test
• The role is responsible for the maintaining sufficient stock of consumable items to support builds (e.g. connectors, thermocouples)
• The role supports the production and maintenance of departmental level Business Management System (BMS) documentation (as designated by the Senior Cell Engineer)
• The role is responsible for following the relevant standards and process guidelines specified in the documentation
• The role supports the Senior Cell Engineer by providing quotes for new test equipment (e.g. DMM)
• The role supports the facility manager by timely delivery of Cell Engineering equipment due for calibration
• The role is responsible for clear communication of task status and issues to the Senior Cell Engineer

The role also requires travel within the UK to attend testing at supplier locations

Qualifications
-A BTEC (Level 3/4) in an engineering field, or equivalent qualification

Experience

• A basic knowledge of Li-ion cells and safe handling
• An understanding of electrical test equipment
• Practical engineering experience would be desirable
• Basic knowledge of MS Office / Office 365 suite of programmes
