BRGM focuses on enhancing geological knowledge and understanding of surface and sub-surface-related phenomena, with a view to: meeting the challenges of environmental changes through innovative projects with societal implications.
Climate change has accelerated the ambitious program on renewable energy, like the green deal (from European commission) or the Sustainable Energy for all initiative (from United Nations), which aims to develop an efficient, low-carbon and environmentally friendly resource.
You will be mainly responsible for :
– Contribute to coastal hydrodynamics modelling for the characterisation of marine submersion hazards;
– Contribute to research, studies and expertise relating to submersion issues (extreme events, hazards, future projections, etc.);
– Contribute your skills to various BRGM multidisciplinary teams (technical and scientific centres in Orléans and Bordeaux, regional divisions) and partners (academic; research centres, etc.);
– Write study reports, short notes or summaries;
– Enhance and disseminate results (oral and written communications, scientific publications);
– Contribute to the development of BRGM’s research activities in natural coastal hazards (regional, national and European research projects) through contributions to tender packages in response to calls for projects (e.g. ANR, Horizon Europe, etc.), in line with scientific partnerships of national and international excellence;
Context and contributions of the position
The role of the Risks and Prevention Division is to develop scientific research, assist public policy and provide expertise to companies and the international community in the fields of natural risks (earthquakes, volcanoes, gravity, cavities, soil erosion, coastal zones, climate change) and technological risks associated with the subsoil (geological storage, subsoil exploitation and development, post-mining).
You will be joining the Coastal Risks and Climate Change unit, which works more specifically on coastal risks linked to erosion, changes in the coastline and marine submersion, taking into account the effects of climate change, for the purposes of prevention, crisis management and territorial adaptation.
The unit’s activity is based on research carried out within the framework of mainly national and European projects, which feed into support activities for national and international public policies, as well as expertise.
