College Officer – Assessment

To support the University to deliver the  Assessment Marks Processing project, providing advice, guidance leading on project activities as required.  The role holder will work with colleagues across the college and school structures, providing regular updates and communications on project activities, gather information, validate and interrogate data from the Student Management Information System (SIMS) and provide training to key college and school staff.

You will work with colleagues in schools to understand their assessment processes, undertake an audit of local assessment systems and establish why schools need to use them.  You will work with Schools to achieve consistency in assessment processes, and improved accuracy. You will need to have a good communication skills to be able to provide clear and concise information to school staff and undertake training on the input, validation and management of data, via the SIMS.

Where schools have professional and statutory body reporting requirements, you need to establish the parameters of this reporting to enable the project team to determine if the method being used to report this information is fit for purpose.

Salary: £39,347 – £44,263 per annum (Grade 6).

Job Description

Key Duties

  • Provide professional advice, guidance and communications on the requirements of the Marks Processing Project. You will use your judgement and creativity to contribute to the project and recommend the most appropriate course of action, ensuring that you can communicate complex information succinctly and clearly to all stakeholder groups so that conceptual issues are understood.
  • Take responsibility for auditing assessment processes for your college, liaising with key school and college stakeholders to identify assessment data requirements and local reporting requirements. Working independently and also as part of the project team, you will undertake a range of project related activities as where they fall within set role objectives.
  • Investigate and analyse specific issues  in assessment processes, creating recommendation reports, supported by advances within assessment best practice and processes which emerge throughout the project.
  • Ensure that the Marks Processing project is delivered to the institution, proactively, communicating changes in recording of assessment data and working with schools to agree accountability, monitoring and validation of assessment marks at the point of entry.
  • Establish working relationships with key contacts, developing appropriate communication links with the University’s Schools/Directorates and outside bodies as required.
  • Create specific working groups from colleagues across the University to achieve school/departmental objectives.
  • Plan and deliver specific small-scale projects, co-ordinating and supervising project teams created as needed, to engender the change management required for the University.
  • Develop and deliver training within assessment management and  professional services reporting as appropriate.
  • Undertake a variety of administrative duties to support the department.
  • Instruct and guide other employees across the University within the Marks Processing project as required.

Qualifications and Education

  • Degree/NVQ 4 or equivalent Professional membership/experience.

  • Substantial experience of working within assessment.
  • Able to demonstrate professional knowledge within assessment to give advice and guidance to internal and external customers.
  • Proven experience in developing new processes and procedures.
