Communications Project Officer

Contract: Fixed term contract until end of December 2024. 2 days / 15 hours per week. Working
hours are flexible but you will need to be available for meetings and events on particular
days.

Job purpose

A. To raise the profile of multiple projects through publicity, press and outreach activities.

B. To disseminate expertise and knowledge about social forestry and social prescribing,
positioning Coed Lleol -Small Woods Wales as experts in the field.

C. To support Project Officers in developing a local publicity strategy and ensuring they
have the resources they need.

D. To work with the project team to communicate clearly with government, councils and health
boards about the achievements of Coed Lleol-Small Woods Wales.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Proactively communicate with pan-Wales press and develop publicity opportunities for the
    project, and support Project Officers with local press activities, press releases and photo
    calls. Keep publicity records.
  2. For the purpose of external communications, support Project Officers to keep local contacts
    up to date, including press contacts.
  3. To support the project and the team to provide bilingual Welsh-English communication across
    all channels.
  4. Gather source materials to develop project stories and case studies (e.g. photos, videos,
    quotes, research findings). Produce articles about the project for our website, the Small Woods
    magazine and external publications.
  5. Help project staff to plan, promote and organise project events; event publicity,
    invitations, displays, printed materials and guest speakers etc.
  6. Represent the project at local and national events, sometimes giving presentations about
    our work.
  7. Together with other Communications Team members, maintain an appropriate, wide reaching and
    effective online presence; managing and developing the Coed Lleol/Small Woods Wales website,
    blog, social media and compiling e-bulletins to reflect current activities.
  8. Contribute to social media presence, highlighting national achievements as well as
    supporting project officers locally.
  9. To work with project staff to communicate consistently and clearly as a whole organisation.
  10. Carry out any other similar duties as can reasonably be required of the post.
