A clinical position as consultant of at the Department of at Copenhagen University Hospital – Herlev and Gentofte is open for appointment from as soon as possible.The position is combined with a 5-year externally funded position as clinical professor of Orthopaedic Surgery with special focus on advanced primary and revision shoulder arthroplasty surgery at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.With this new position the Department of Joint and Bone Surgery, Copenhagen University Hospital – Herlev and Gentofte wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research on surgical and non-surgical treatment of shoulder traumatology & primary and revision shoulder arthroplasty and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.The advertisement for the professorship is available from the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen ( ).ABOUT THE DEPARTMENTThe department of Joint and Bone Surgery is located at two sites, Herlev Hospital and Gentofte Hospital.Traumatology and acute surgery are performed at Herlev Hospital and planned elective surgery is performed at Gentofte Hospital. The department employs currently > 50 consultants.There are 54 beds at Herlev Hospital divided in two departments and 37 beds at Gentofte Hospital in one department. There is a large department at Gentofte Hospital performing day-surgery.There are about 2,400 acute operations and 10,000 Herlev Hospital. There are about 8,000 operations and 70,000 visits in the outpatient clinic at Gentofte Hospital.Clinical functions and focus areas of the department:The department has a large section for acute traumatology and infections. We perform, primary and revisions arthroplasty in hip and knee. Furthermore, the department treats foot and ankle surgery and sports traumatology. On the upper extremity the department has a special focus on hand surgery and shoulder and elbow surgery where the department is a referral practice for revision procedures. In shoulder and elbow surgery the department is one of 3 departments in Denmark allowed to perform all kind of procedures including advanced revision procedures on both shoulder and elbow joints. The section for shoulder and elbow surgery performs acute traumatology on the shoulder and the elbow and elective procedures including arthroplasty and revision proceduresIn the section for shoulder and elbow surgery we are currently 6 senior consultants and 4 staff specialists. Last year we performed > 280 shoulder arthroplasties inclusive > 60 revision procedures.Research and teachingWith the new position as consultant in Orthopaedic surgery and clinical professor of Orthopaedic Surgery with special focus on advanced primary and revision shoulder arthroplasty, the Department of Joint and Bone Surgery wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching. The department already has a productive research group focused on shoulder and elbow surgery, with a large publication history. During the last 5 years three PhD’s focusing on shoulder and elbow surgery were defended, and further 4 are in preparation. During the last 5 years the research group has published > 50 articles related to the upper extremity. Furthermore, the department educate medical students in both Herlev and Gentofte Hospitals.QualificationsThe applicant must be board-certified specialist in Orthopaedic surgery. Furthermore, the applicant must have a well-documented clinical and research profile in shoulder traumatology and shoulder arthroplasty surgery, with special documented experience in revision surgical procedures of shoulder implants. Finally, the applicant must have significant teaching experience at all levels and an academic degree, minimum at the level of a PhD.ConditionsTo be considered for the position, the applicant must send an application to both the faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) in the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Herlev and Gentofte Hospital.Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of Orthopaedic surgical department.
