This is an exciting opportunity for the successful motivated and enthusiastic candidate to join the team based at Leighton Hospital in Crewe.This role comes with the opportunity for the successful applicant (should they wish) to spend two sessions to further develop interests in other areas which may include another specialty service or alternatively medical education, clinical governance and quality improvement, clinical leadership or research.The successful candidate will be highly motivated with a passion to improve the quality of patient care. They will have strong communication skills and be an excellent ‘Team Player’. They will value training and education.Main duties of the jobThe successful candidate will be based at Leighton Hospital, Crewe in the Acute Medical Unit, Division of Medicine and Emergency Care.The post is offered on a fixed term, full time, or job share basis the job plan being intended for a full-time appointment with an opportunity to modify this if the post is offered on any other basis.The successful applicant must have full registration with the GMC and continue to hold a License to Practice. Applicants must hold or be within 6 months of Specialist Registration or a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Acute Medicine or General Internal Medicine with a specialist interest.The vision of the Acute Medical Unit is to consistently provide a caring, professional, high quality, efficient clinical service for patients who present with an acute medical condition to secondary care from the community, Emergency Department or following a clinic attendance.Our values, alongside professional codes of conduct, will empower staff to deliver a high quality service.About usMid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MCHFT) provides good quality, safe and effective healthcare to the people of Cheshire and beyond. The Trust, which manages Leighton Hospital in Crewe, Victoria Infirmary in Northwich, and Elmhurst Intermediate Care Centre in Winsford, was established as an NHS Trust in April 1991 and became a Foundation Trust in April 2008.We employ almost 5,000 members of staff, provide around 540 hospital beds, with a range of services including accident and emergency, maternity, outpatients, therapies, and children’s health.The Trust is also part of Central Cheshire Integrated Care Partnership (CCICP), a unique local health partnership that provides a range of community services for people across South Cheshire and Vale Royal.The Trust is one of a small number of hospitals nationally confirmed to be in an early phase of the national New Hospital Build Programme. This will result in the acute hospital on the Leighton site being completely rebuilt and operational by 2031, providing fantastic opportunities for development and transformation of elective and acute surgical services at MCHFT.Job description
Job responsibilities8 PAs (DCC): which includes 1.5 PAs to cover scheduled on-call work (identified as on-call on job plan timetable). 6-8 DCC dependent if specialty interest work of the successful applicant is considered to be DCC or SPA.1 core SPA PA per week to support appraisal and revalidation. A second SPA is routinely offered to support service development, quality improvement and/or delivery of educational activity. The post also provides an opportunity for the successful candidate to undertake up to 2 sessions in an additional clinical or non clinical role of special interest to the candidate.Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
- Full GMC Registration
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via: CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) CESR or European Community Rights
- MBBS or equivalent
Desirable
- Additional higher degrees relevant to this post
- Other postgraduate qualification e.g. MD, PhD
- Qualified educational supervisor
Experience
Essential
- Extensive experience in Acute / General Internal Medicine
Desirable
- Other specialties will be considered but especially desirable would be Respiratory Medicine, Care of the Elderly/Frailty, Diabetes or Rheumatology
