The incumbent will undertake a part time assignment to perform the following tasks and functional responsibilities: 1. Coordination of project activities on the ground. • Coordinate the project activities of the main institutional partners (UNEP CCC, Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM), Ministry of Foreign and Economic Affairs (MoFEA), Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC)). This includes convening, facilitating and participating in remote and in-person project meetings based on the project’s workplan and stakeholders’ availability. Interact and coordinate activities with a variety of other national stakeholders, including other government entities, the finance and insurance sector, and other relevant private sector entities). This includes: o Identify and establish contact with relevant private sector stakeholders and government and RBM contacts for interviews. o Assist in data and information gathering from these stakeholders under guidance of UNEP CCC o Organize workshops and select relevant participants in consultation with RBM, MoFEA, MoECC and with support from UNEP-CCC o Coordinate review, comment, and validation process with relevant stakeholders for final deliverables 2. Data and information gathering • Collection of relevant documents in a shared drive (policy documents, laws, regulations, plans, relevant organigrams, reports, and the like relating to Malawi’s financial system and sector, its climate policies and plans, and its climate risk exposure.) • Identification of relevant companies and private sector stakeholders active in Malawi. 3. Workshop planning and implementation • Prepare and send invitations to the relevant stakeholders for the workshop. • Provide support to the procurement of venue, catering and technical equipment, by advising on the selection of the venue. • Support logistics for reimbursement of travel expenses of selected participants if need be.

Duties and Responsibilities

UNEP is looking for a Coordination officer to support the project “Greening the Financial Sector in Malawi”. Under the direct supervision of the UNEP Project Manager, the Coordination officer will facilitate and coordinate the implementation of project activities in Malawi during the course of project implementation (9 months), such as coordination of project activities on the ground, data and information gathering and workshop planning and implementation.

Qualifications/special skills

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) preferably in development studies, social studies, business, management, administration or related areas is required. ● A first-level university degree (bachelor’s or its equivalent) with additional 2 years of experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. ● A minimum of 5 years of work experience in development project implementation, working with national public institutions, private sector associations / promotion agencies, banking sectors or similar is required. ● Familiarized with national processes in Malawi and ability to work in the interface between public and private sector is required. ● Demonstrated writing, and facilitation skills is an asset. ● Experience in organizing workshops and/or similar events is an asset.

Languages

  • Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
