What you’ll doYour main focus is to detect and prevent fraud by merchants who might misuse Adyen’s payment processing services and related banking products for illicit activities. This role involves understanding these payment flows and identifying fraudulent patterns at the merchant level.

  • Detect and Prevent Merchant Fraud: Identify fraudulent behavior by merchants misusing Adyen’s payment processing or banking products.
  • Develop Typologies: Build a deep understanding of merchant fraud schemes and model them effectively using data.
  • Design Controls: Improve detection methods and rules by collaborating with product and engineering teams, aiming for effective coverage with minimal false positives.
  • Deliver Insights: Build dashboards and reports to share findings, measure impact, and inform risk strategies.
  • Collaborate Across Teams: Work with investigators, compliance, product, engineering, and operations to bring ideas from concept to production.
  • Translate & Influence: Clearly explain complex topics to both technical and non-technical audiences, ensuring alignment and adoption.
  • Continuously Improve: Monitor effectiveness of implemented controls, contribute to process improvement, and scale our fraud prevention framework.

Who you are

  • Experienced in Fraud – You have 2+ years of experience in fraud analytics, ideally in payments, fintech, or financial services.
  • Technical Expert – Proficient Python and SQL. Strong with BI tools like Looker. Ideally you also have experience with big data tooling, i.e. PySpark, Hadoop and Airflow.
  • Financial Crime Warrior – Clear and strong motivation to work in the Merchant Fraud field.
  • Powerful Persuader + Communicator – Able to lead discussions effectively with technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Business-Aware – You know how to balance precision and recall, and make decisions that reflect both fraud risk and operational impact.
  • Curiosity-driven – Asks the right questions and finds out more about the content and technology we work with on their own initiative.
