Our DataR&D team develops all the digital biomarkers that will be embedded in our products bringing them from their initial research stage to a clinically validated stage.We are looking for a Data Scientist with a passion for science and scientific discovery, who has solid experience in navigating through complex data science challenges. If you are an independent, pragmatic, and goal-oriented person, who can achieve results in a timely manner, and also happens to be passionate about making a difference in the world, read on.You will be involved in our R&D initiatives and will be working with our proprietary algorithms that, among many other things, help the lives of many patients every day. You will help solve challenging problems also by building algorithms to effectively measure outcomes starting from wearable sensors.You will:
- Develop digital biomarkers within our products by means of signal processing and Machine Learning techniques.
- Analyze and visualize physiological and behavioral data to extract meaningful knowledge associated with the mental or physical diseases we are dealing with.
- Drive initiatives (i.e., Literature research, technical feasibility assessments, solution proposal and design, team discussion, and team coordination) to further improve Empatica’s product offering.
- Lead or support the design, execution, and monitoring of protocols to collect data during internal or external clinical studies involving human subjects (i.e., statistical analysis plans, data development plans, dataset preparation, clinical performance evaluation).
- Manage communication with partner institutions conducting clinical studies with our products (i.e., handle meetings and communication with external stakeholders, solve technical challenges).

- Empatica operates in an international environment with offices in Europe, the US, and Korea. All work is conducted in English.
- We are operating a hybrid model where our employees choose whether to work from home or come to the office.
RequirementsYou are the ideal person for this job if you:
- Have a Ph.D. in bioengineering or computer science. Preferred fields of application are: Neurology, Cardio-vascular diseases, Sleep analysis, Digital therapeutics, Fatigue detection, Pain monitoring, and Depression
- Have worked a minimum of 3 years with medical or healthcare data
- Are experienced in managing R&D projects in either in-company or academic settings
- Are proficient in signal processing, statistical analysis, and the development of machine learning algorithms
- Have a proven track record of coordinating or taking part in clinical and/or research studies
- Have strong programming skills in one or more of the following languages:
- Matlab
- Python
- Have experience in healthcare applications, or a strong interest and desire to learn about them
- Are proficient in English (mother tongue is a plus)
- Have a passion for Empatica’s products and mission
- Have resilience, a get-things-done attitude, and an innate desire to do great work
