Offer Description
As part of its quarrying business, NGE mines Jaumont stone. This is an oolitic limestone from the Bajocian, a stage of the Middle Jurassic. It has been used in the construction of buildings such as Saint-Etienne’s Cathedral in Metz. Over the years, the quantity of ashlar from the deposit has declined, as has its quality.
Instead of sourcing from other quarries, in Portugal for example, NGE wants to formulate a reconstituted stone with mechanical and colour properties similar to Jaumont stone.
The main objectives of the internship are:
▪ Characterise the available raw materials: Jaumont stone, sand, binders etc.
▪ Optimise a reconstituted stone formula and detail a manufacturing process for it
▪ Characterise reconstituted stone using current standards
▪ Carry out an economic and environmental study of optimised formulas, in comparison with current data on Jaumont stone.
▪ Consider large-scale technical feasibility
