Our mission is to:

  • Transform clinical development, through development of patient and site centric digital solutions that improve access to clinical trials for all patients, whilst delivering faster and more efficiently for both site and sponsor
  • Improve outcomes for our patients and trials through remote data collection and patient support providing enriched data sets to support regulatory submissions and differentiated labelling
  • Partner with the healthcare industry to determine how digital technologies can improve diagnosis, access to treatments and outcomes for patients including remote diagnosis tools and multi-modal healthcare data and AI approaches
  • Optimize real world medication use by patients and deliver digital interventions to improve clinical outcomes with our medicines

AstraZeneca’s R&D Digital Health Oncology Organization develops digital solutions to support our development and commercial drug portfolios. These digital solutions range from the innovative and optimized use of electronic Clinical Outcomes Assessments (eCOA), all the way through to stand-alone Digital Therapeutics and typically encompass connected devices and sensors, patient-completed questionnaires that can be coupled with medical device software to:

  • Generate patient-relevant evidence as support of novel digital endpoints
  • Improve clinical development, through optimizing data collection and data use by AZ, HCP and patients
  • Provide enriched data sets to support regulatory submissions, and differentiated labelling
  • Optimise real world medication use by patients through digital interventions and improve clinical outcomes

Moreover, it includes digital solutions to support the patient and investigator experience in the clinical trial, based on feedback from patients and sites, some examples of these include:

  • E-Consent
  • Solutions to help patient navigate the trial requirements
  • Telemedicine to have virtual visits/remote visits not all physical
  • Remote monitoring and assessments
  • Medication management
  • Providing and receiving feedback to and from the patient regarding the study

Key Accountabilities:As part of the Digital Health Oncology Team, the Implementation Lead will be responsible for execution of the GPT Digital Strategies. This is in alignment with the SET and Board approved goal to have Digital Strategies reviewed across 90% of projects in 2021. The holder of this role will collaborate and partner within an extended team structure across CPTs, Digital Health – Oncology, Clin Ops and Dev Ops to craft, develop and implement digital patient solutions to support the execution of clinical trials, and digital therapeutics crafted to augment the efficacy of AZ pharmaceutical products. The role holder will also contribute to defining processes and ways of working for now and the future.This role includes but is not limited to:

  • Work closely with the Director, Digital Health Implementation to support the implementation of the digital technology strategies approved by the GPT.
  • Accountable for the operational implementation of the digital strategy, as approved by GPT within the agreed scope and budget.
  • Accountable for the digital strategy implementation, extract learnings and take corrective actions where needed.
  • Supports a cross-functional project working (or sub) teams tasked with the delivery of digital plans.
  • Ensure risks, issues and opportunities at the operational level are transparent and actively managed.
  • Develop and manage relationships with external and internal stakeholders to support innovative approaches.
  • Partner closely with IT Roles (Study Onboarding Business Analyst & ITPM) to successfully deliver to the study team the respective digital solutions.
  • Build a strong network of local/site-based contacts to support implementation and troubleshooting.
  • Ensure that local requirements associated with digital technology are incorporated in operational delivery plans – to enable successful digital technology implementation.
  • Work closely with CPTs, Global & Local Study Teams, Supply Teams, and other GPT sub-teams to deliver a smooth implementation of digital support solutions and medical devices.
  • Help build a learning organization: ensure that any learning associated with the program is shared with the Digital Organization.

Education, Qualifications, Skills, and ExperienceEssential

  • Bachelors Hons Degree in scientific field or equivalent
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in R&D and strong knowledge of Drug Development processes
  • Knowledge in Digital Health applications
  • Well developed Project management skills, including managing vendors, budgets, timelines and risks
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a cross functional setting with internal as well as external partners
  • Ability to challenge the status quo, take ownership and holds self and others accountable
  • Senior Stakeholder management skill with together with proven negotiation, collaboration and interpersonal leadership skills
  • Effective problem and conflict solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to deal with ambiguity and create clarity

Desirable

  • Extensive cross-functional and cross-TA network to rely on and collaborate with to enable Digital Health – Oncology solutions to be effectively embedded within the Drug Development ways of working.
  • Experience of developing products to support patients in AZ’s therapy areas
  • Device, software development and / or clinical project management
  • Comprehensive understanding of dynamics affecting the pharmaceutical industry and needs for transformation
  • Ability to work globally including international travel
