Job description

This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with the Head of Programmes of King’s Global Health Partnerships (KGHP), to provide strategic and operational clinical leadership for our new programme of work in Sierra Leone.  The post is based in Freetown, Sierra Leone but 2-4 weeks will be spent in the UK office to strengthen NHS clinical engagement, particularly in nursing and emergency care and to support cross-partnership learning.

The post provides strategic leadership into the FCDO-funded Concern Consortium as the Clinical Lead on the Consortium Board. In addition, the post provides clinical leadership for the creation of the KGHP fellowship scheme and for all the KGHP fellows working across 6 district hospitals in Sierra Leone. These volunteers will support training of health staff in the district hospitals and community health centres.

In addition, the post will provide leadership for KGHP volunteers undertaking leadership and management training and mentorship for hospital leadership and district management teams. KGHP’s role in the FCDO programme focuses on workforce development across district hospitals and primary health units with a strong focus on in-service education and training through continuous professional development. The post also provides strategic leadership and clinical coordination of all the other KGHP interventions in Sierra Leone, including strategic clinical oversight of the Emergency Care Systems development project.

Learnings from the clinical work in Sierra Leone will be shared across our health partnerships in Democratic Republic of Congo, The Gambia, Somaliland, and Zambia. This will be facilitated through a close working relationship with two new KGHP posts – the Health Systems Strengthening Lead and the Policy Lead, and taking part of KGHP SMT.

The ideal candidate will be a middle-grade or senior health professional with experience leading emergency department clinical teams and with health service strategic leadership experience.

This post will be offered on an fixed-term contract until 7th April 2026.

This is a full-time post – 100% full time equivalent.
