About the role:The Director, Pharma Business Development has the opportunity to grow Owkin’s business with pharmaceutical companies by generating new leads, owning and managing key accounts, and contributing to the go-to-market strategy of the company.Directly prospecting for new accounts and owning the management of your assigned clients, you’ll be instrumental in creating awareness of Owkin’s ground-breaking federated AI and machine learning capabilities, which disrupt drug discovery, enhance and accelerate drug development, and can support market access and commercial activities in Pharma.Reporting directly to the Europe Business Development team lead, you’ll be a part of the global sales team. The position also requires in-depth, consistent cross-team collaborations within Owkin including our Data Portfolio, Legal, Operations, Medical, Corporate Strategy, and Diagnostics.In particular, you will:
- Engage major pharmaceutical prospects and clients across multiple stakeholder groups, including, but not limited to C-suite Executives, therapeutic / assets leadership teams, bioinformatics, translational research, real world evidence, procurement, R&D, medical affairs, diagnostics and data science teams.
- Secure new business aligned with Owkin’s values and strategy; closing high value and complex technology and/or solution deals.
- Engage the market with Owkin’s differentiating capabilities, such as AI applied to unique multimodal data from its academic network, or predictive analytic concepts which will drive significant changes in drug discovery, clinical development, and digital diagnostic tools.
- Play a significant role in helping to scale the company and deploy world class commercial sales solutions, and defining the market positioning.
The role is based in our Paris, Nantes or London offices and ideally be in a position to travel to one of the offices a minimum of 2 days per week. Other international travel to clients, conferences, congresses and team meetings will be required.About youYou are hands-on, experienced, proactive, independent, articulate and possess a good sense of humor, integrity and professionalism. You’ll also have:
- Minimum 5 years of commercial/solution sales experience to the Pharmaceutical / Biotech industry, with significant achievements and relevant network.
- Proven sales success in closing high value and complex technology and/or consulting and/or service contracts in the pharmaceutical industry.
- A University Degree with a strong scientific and/or business background, preferably a Masters/PhD degree in Pharmacy, Medicine, Molecular Biology, Epidemiology, HEOR, Genetics, Oncology, Statistics, Machine Learning, Data Science, Business school etc.
- A significant and relevant professional network across the Pharmaceutical industry, that can be leveraged to become valued, repeat customers.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including strengths in running effective sales, business and internal meetings, preparing and delivering professional pitches and complex negotiations.
- Fluent in English, ideally with French or other European languages to a professional level
- Strong computer literacy (Mac, Google suite, Slack, Salesforce, Notion).
- A fascination for innovative research and Artificial Intelligence, the future of clinical research and medicine.
- Passion for solving the biggest problems in health.
- Ideally, experience of working in a PE or VC backed start-up / scale-up company environment, with an ability to think outside the box while supporting it to scale.
- The ability to attend conferences and meetings on a regular basis.
- High adaptability, with the capacity to embrace the unknown and thrive in an environment where work requirements, constraints and expectations are ever-changing.
