For our Showcase Lab in Metzingen, we are currently looking for an experiencedEngineer (m/f/d)Position Summary:Performs engineering work in applied research, design, development, testing, manufacturing, and documentation of products or systems. Works with customers to understand equipment/system requirements. Uses research techniques to analyze and validate design or theory conceptsEssential Responsibilities:

• Part of Team for the design and analysis of systems, products, and subsystems/circuits to specification, cost, budget, schedule, and quality goals.
• Responsible to diagnose issues of moderate scope with design, field performance, reliability and test yields of products and recommend/implement corrective actions to address.
• Keeping abreast of the latest, academic-based and industrially-available PVD and plasma etch technologies.
• Identifiing and communicating obstacles and opportunities associated with meeting the PVD and plasma etch needs of AE’s next generation products.
• Test, characterize, and optimize in-house PVD and plasma etch solutions.
• Working with internal and external customers through vetting the latest PVD and plasma etch technologies through vendor demos and on- and off-site materials characterization and testing.
• Building and maintaining excellent relations with internal customers and external vendors and customers.
• Serving as a technical expert by educating and advising other AE team members on general PVD and plasma etch technology as well as problem specific issues.
• Serve and lead cross-function teams to solve problems.
• Other duties as assigned

Work Environment:

• Standard office environment utilizing standard office equipment, a noisy fast-paced lab, and/or clean room.
• Occasional travel if needed

• Ability to exercise independent judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.
• Proven ability to use professional concepts appropriate to engineering, including analytical methods, computer aided analysis and design tools, diagnostic instruments and test equipment, lab skills appropriate to design, selecting appropriate components and materials for designs.
• Ability to function within environment where general instructions on routine work is received and detailed instructions on new projects or assignments are received.
• Ability to solve complex technical problems with minimal assistance.
• Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills, especially for those of a technical nature.
• Experience with influencing in difficult situations.
• Microsoft Office and excellent technical and general writing skills just as presentation skills.
• Excellent collaborative and intra-personal skills.
• Ability to communicate with customers effectively in a professional manner.
• Ability to conduct effective and efficient meetings.
• Microsoft Project (or equivalent) and project management skills.
• Basic understanding of semiconductor devices, integrated circuits, flat panel displays, optical coatings, decorative coatings and their associated manufacturing process.
• In-depth understanding of PVD and plasma etch physics, processes and equipment.
• Understanding of thin film physical characterization techniques, such as

• SEM, TEM, XRD, EDX, RBS, AFM, AES, SIMS and/or others;
• Measuring hardness, roughness, haze, stress, etc.;
• Wet chemical characterization, e.g. thin film etch rate;
• Electrical characterization, including IV and CV measurements.
• Design of Experiments (DOE) and Design for Manufacturability (DFM) experience.
• Understanding of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and general statistical data analysis, including use of Microsoft Excel.
• Good German and English language skills, Chinese desirable

Experience:Several years of experience in research and / or industryEducation:

• PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science or Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or related field of study. Experience in

• R&D and/or manufacturing of PVD and/or plasma etch process development for the industrial decorative or optical coatings, or semiconductor, MEMS, sensors, flat panel display (FPD) industries
