.NHS 24 has an exciting opportunity for an ‘experienced senior medical leader’ to provide professional clinical leadership to all NHS 24 staff and expertise to the full range of services including our 111, Scottish Emergency Dental (SEDs), Health Information, Breathing Space and Living Life services. This will require strong professional leadership along with excellent influencing and persuasion skills to engage with our key stakeholders and maximise the potential of the services we deliver.In addition, this post also includes leading and driving continuous improvement in clinical quality, value, and compliance. This is delivered through effective clinical professional governance, working in partnership with Directors, ensuring robust regulatory compliance; ensuring that these measures are designed to enable a high performing and agile organisation.

  • Do you have previous senior management experience in a substantial Medical Director post including experience within the NHS or an equivalent organisation?
  • Can you demonstrate a background in contributing to Executive Management Team and Board Meetings?
  • Do you have experience of designing, assessing organisational impact and successfully implementing a strategy to transform clinical services?

Who We AreNHS 24 is a National Health Board established to provide a national 24-hour service providing clinical assessment and referral, health advice and information by telephone to the people of Scotland through a network of contact centres and digitally through NHS Inform, NHS 24 online and other channels. NHS 24 plays a key role within the NHS system, acting as a customer/patient gateway to the NHS in Scotland. It also supports and facilities the development of other digitally enabled services on an ongoing basis recognising the changing health and care needs of the people of Scotland.Where We Are:We have six regional centres – Aberdeen, Dundee, South Queensferry, Hillington, Cardonald and Clydebank. NHS 24 supports hybrid working, and this post can be based within any NHS 24 regional centres. The successful candidate must be within commuting distance to a regional centre to attend if required and must also be able to travel to other regional centres when requested to attend meetings, undertake training and any other activities.The Role…..As an Executive Team member, the Medical Director will fully contribute to and participate in the governance, strategic development, and corporate management of NHS 24. To provide professional clinical leadership, expertise and advice to the Board and the Executive Team.Key Responsibilities:

  • To develop, review and refine clinical services and protocols underpinning NHS 24 services. To establish and assure appropriate quality assurance and effective processes of all elements of Clinical Governance across the organisation.
  • To provide professional clinical leadership to NHS 24’s staff ensuring the highest standards of clinical practice and care, underpinned by best practice education and training.
  • To work in partnership with the Director of Nursing & Care, with clear lines of accountability agreed by the Chief Executive, to be responsible for the delivery of effective Clinical and Care Governance disciplines, systems, and processes within NHS 24. With an emphasis on delivering continuous improvements in person centred care across all services.
  • To be a national leader, advocate, and innovator in the field of digitally based healthcare, and to strategically influence other key clinical leaders.

The successful candidate will have –

  • Extensive previous senior management experience in a substantial post including experience within the NHS or an equivalent organisation, and in contributing to Executive Management Team and Board Meetings.
  • Experience of working with the public sector, and a clear understanding of public sector issues.
  • Strong focus on achievement and delivery, with a creative but pragmatic approach to problem-solving.
  • Demonstrable track record of designing, assessing organisational impact and successfully implementing a strategy to transform a service model.
  • Experience in managing major organisational change and development.
  • Excellent leadership skills, particularly influencing and inter-personal skills.
  • Excellent staff management and communications skills to earn confidence and respect necessary to deliver change and support the development of an open and inclusive culture.
  • Experience of successfully leading, motivating, and managing a diverse team of staff.
  • Highly developed influencing, negotiating and facilitation skills.
