This leadership position offers the opportunity to cultivate collaboration across cross-functional teams, develop innovative medical engagement strategies, and position the UK MSL team as leaders in evidence generation, trusted partnerships with healthcare professionals (HCPs), and strategic account management.If you’re passionate about leading high-performing teams and driving impactful change in the medical field, this role is an exciting opportunity to make a significant difference in patient care.Key responsibilities:

  • Lead and Encourage: Champion a strong sense of identity, purpose, and collaboration among the UK-based MSL team, while supporting their professional growth and development.
  • Strategic Alignment: Align MSL strategies with medical plans and account management goals to ensure a unified approach that meets interpersonal objectives.
  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Establish effective relationships between MSLs, account managers, and internal partners, promoting a cohesive and successful work environment.
  • Develop Relationships: Nurture positive relationships with MSL leaders at the EMEA level, showcasing UK-led innovations and collaborative successes.
  • Implement Engagement Strategies: Craft and implement effective omnichannel MSL engagement strategies using AI and digital platforms to improve MSL efficiency.
  • Field Strategy Oversight: Lead all aspects of the development and execution of field strategies for new disease areas and line extensions, in alignment with JJIM’s strategic priorities.
  • Drive Innovation: Encourage the MSL team to become leaders in innovation, motivating change through medical-led evidence generation and trusted relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs).
  • Performance Management: Conduct monthly performance reviews and coaching sessions, encouraging continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Onboarding and Training Support: Facilitate the onboarding of new MSLs and identify their training needs, providing tailored solutions to support their growth.
  • Project Management Execution: Lead and implement priority MSL initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and successful rollout of relevant tools and projects.

QualificationsEducation:

  • Required: Medical or scientific degree (MD, PhD, PharmD, etc.)

Experience and skillsRequired:

  • Tried experience in Medical or MSL roles within the pharmaceutical industry with strong leadership, with a track record of mentor and developing teams. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders with a commitment to improvement.
  • Strong understanding of the regulatory landscape and compliance requirements (e.g., ABPI Code of Practice).
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, cross-functional environment and drive sophisticated projects. Familiarity with digital tools and technologies to enhance medical engagement and field strategy.
  • Ability to travel as required (up to 50%).

Preferred:

  • Line management experience strongly preferred
  • Experience in oncology, immunology, or another therapeutic area aligned with Johnson & Johnson’s portfolio.
  • Coaching qualification or experience in leadership development.
  • Experience with AI-driven medical engagement and digital transformation and in international collaboration across the EMEA region. You should have a background in developing and driving medical education programs or scientific partnerships.
