Working within the Service Excellence team within our Rolling Stock – Customer Services team, the role will focus on challenging existing and established practices to identify improvement opportunities and lead or support a variety of (sometimes multi-functional) projects within the CS organisation.

Focus will be how to effectively share industry best practice and knowledge of Lean (and other CI tool kits) within the various teams / functions – driving performance efficiencies in line with the business growth plan.

We are recruiting school and college leavers to join our Improvement Leader apprenticeship scheme who want to make a difference and develop their skills in:

  • Continuous Improvement & Lean

  • Change and Business Transformation/Improvement

  • Process Excellence

Here is how the programme works:

Whilst on the Apprenticeship you will be following an apprenticeship standard ST0555

The programme structure and duration will be dependent on the apprenticeship standard you will be following. This will be confirmed when you join us but could include one of the following methods of learning:

  • Day release at college

  • Block release

  • Online learning

In some instances you may be in college full time during your first year.

Whilst working towards a formal qualification you will also work as part of a team on real life projects within the workplace.

Here is what you can make a difference in:

  • Evaluate the performance of existing processes, using appropriate structured techniques to drive performance improvement.

  • Promote positive change within the business by facilitating CI/lean (Kaizen) events, to ensure the production teams operate in the most efficient manner.

  • Embed key ‘Lean’ stable foundations into the teams – such as Standardised work, Visual management and controls, 5S, Just-in-Time, JIDOKA

  • Conducting process mapping and value stream mapping activities to identify inefficiencies and implement improvement activities

  • Design, specify and implement new processes alongside the production teams to deliver technology, innovations and other improvements with the aim of maximising profitability and business growth through Continuous Improvement.

The candidate:

Minimum Educational Requirements:

You will have achieved least 5 GCSE’s grade 4 or above including maths and English language and 3 A Levels (or BTEC equivalent) at grade C or above.
