This is a great opportunity for an individual with proven experience managing complex donor funded grants/contracts to play a critical role supporting our South Caucasus Programme. The ideal candidate will be a problem-solver who isn’t afraid to develop creative solutions and knows when to bring others in. They will be highly confident with all aspects of budget management and Excel, and will understand the different requirements that need to be considered in delivering peacebuilding work and working with partners.

Job Purpose
The Grants Manager is responsible for effective and efficient delivery of donor funded grants/contracts across the South Caucasus programme, including consortium grants. The Grants Manager will be responsible for all stages of grant management, including project start-up, implementation and close-down. Their role will include contract and partnership management, programme finance tasks, donor facing reporting and tasks, ensuring compliance with Conciliations Resources’ organisational policies and donor requirements, and appropriate adaptation to the context.
The Grants Manager will be experienced in managing complex and large (preferably £500,000 per annum+) donor grants, setting up partnership arrangements and budget tracking and donor reporting. This post will work closely with colleagues in the South Caucasus programme, who lead the design and delivery of CR’s peacebuilding activities in the context. The Grants Manager will also work closely with colleagues in the wider Europe-Asia department, particularly the Department Manager, who provide additional support to the programme. The post-holder manages the Grants Administration Officer. The role is UK-based, with expectation of presence in the London-based office at least once a week.

Person Specification
Essential knowledge, skills and experience

  • Experience of grants and finance management, including of working on projects of an annual value of over £500,000
  • Substantial experience of project management including project planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation and narrative and financial reporting to donors.
  • Confidence in engaging with international donors on contract and grant management. Experience of managing EU grants
  • Proven experience of problem solving to ensure policies and processes work in practice in conflict affected areas.
  • Proven experience and confidence in financial management across all aspects of project management and experience in complex donor budgets, with inputs from multiple organisations.
  • Experience of ensuring compliance with donor requirements and with safety and security standards on projects in complex environments.
  • Demonstrable experience of preparing, managing and monitoring budgets, and of monitoring and collating partners’ financial and narrative reporting.
  • Experience of developing and adapting templates and mechanisms that are suitable for different organisations and contexts.
  • Experience of working with international, national and local partner organisations in conditions of current or recent conflict.
  • Appreciation of confidentiality, political sensitivity and the complexities of working in a situation of unresolved conflict or political transition.
  • Experience of and sensitivity to communicating with multicultural and diverse audiences.
  • Attention to detail and ability to juggle multiple complex deadlines.
  • Excellent spoken and written English.
  • Excellent IT skills, including Excel.

Desirable knowledge, skills and experience

  • Relevant finance and/or project/grant management qualifications.
  • Familiarity with and/or knowledge of the EU’s Operating System (OPSYS).
  • Experience of working in a conflict-affected area, and experience of hostile environment training or willingness to undertake hostile environment training.
  • Experience of working in/knowledge of the conflict contexts in the South Caucasus region
  • Competency in Russian
