Head of School of English, Media & Creative Arts / Established Professor, Full-Time, PermanentApplications are invited for the position of Head of School with an underlying Professorship (full-time, permanent) within the School of English, Media and Creative Arts at the University of Galway. The position of Head of School will run for four years, starting no later than September 1, 2024, and with the option of renewal for a second term.The successful applicant will have a sustained track record of excellent leadership in a multi-disciplinary environment and an established research profile of international standing. They will have a clear vision for building on the School’s multiple strengths in both teaching and research. Expertise in the creative industries, creative technologies, or digital/computational humanities would be an advantage. The School of English, Media and the Creative Arts consists of a thriving, varied and innovative research community. Given the variety of disciplines in the school – English; Drama, Theatre & Performance; Music; Huston School of Film & Digital Media; Journalism & Media – there is considerable variety in the forms and approaches to academic research in the school, including an important place for practice-based research in all disciplines. English currently supports two ERC Consolidator Grants; Drama, Theatre, and Performance currently supports an IRC Laureate Grant. The successful candidate should be a good fit with areas in the School – which include literature, performance and creative practice, creative technologies and digital humanities – or areas for which they see significant potential.The successful applicant will be expected to lead on developing and implementing the School’s five-year strategy, play a full role in shaping the intellectual community of the College of Arts, Social Sciences, and Celtic Studies, and make a strong contribution to the University environment more broadly.
