Phigi: Pioneering Programmable Matter for In-Orbit ServicingPhigi is a spin-off from the FEMTO-ST laboratory and the University of Michigan. The company is developing a new energy-independent electrostatic actuator technology to equip its in-orbit service microrobots. He works with customers to assess their needs in order to adapt and translate developments into a value proposition with a high perceived value for these customers. Rémy holds a DUT in Services et Réseaux de Communication from Université Sorbonne-Paris-Nord, an Engineering Diploma in Computing and Networks specialized in IoT from INSA Toulouse, and a Certificate in Innovation and Entrepreneurship from HEC Paris. With 4 years of experience as a systems engineer at Thales SIX GTS, expatriated to design and deploy the 2nd line of the Panama metro, and 3 years as a research engineer at the FEMTO-ST Institute, Rémy easily understands industrial, academic and commercial issues. This triple profile makes him the ideal actor to develop strategic partnerships and commercial relationships, ensuring consistency between technical feasibility and customer needs.Julien Bourgeois: Julien Bourgeois is the international leader in programmable matter research for 10 years, recognized expert in intelligent and distributed MEMS, creator of the Programmable Matter consortium in 5 countries. Currently professor at the Université de Franche-Comté, researcher at the Franche Comte Electronique Mecanique Thermique Optique Sciences and Technologies (Femto- ST) Institute (UMR CNRS 6174) and lecturer in modular robotics at Harvard, he has supervised more than 17 PhD students in 20 years and directed the computer science department (DISC, 65 permanent staff) for 5 years.
- David Blaauw: David Blaauw is the inventor of the world’s smallest computer, adapted for Phigi microrobots. He brings to the company over 20 years of research experience in ultra-high performance, low power nanoscale integrated circuits. David is the author of 75 patents, the director of 50 Ph.D. theses in 10 years, a multi-awarded researcher with an h-index of 98, and the founder of 3 startups for which he has helped raise over $400M in 2021.
The start-up is not yet incorporated, but we are planning to launch it in July 2025.
