About the roleFor our client in Hengelo , we are looking for an experienced Java Developer with strong skills in Linux , IntelliJ , Jenkins , and JUnit . This is a freelance opportunity (zzp) with a clear mission: contributing to the development of next-generation naval systems for the German Navy.You will be part of a multidisciplinary and self-organizing Scrum team within the FüWES domain (Fire Control and Weapon Engagement System), responsible for the entire development lifecycle — from concept and system design to integration, testing, and onboard delivery.⚠️ Important : Candidates must reside within ~1 hour travel distance from Hengelo, the Netherlands .Your responsibilitiesAs a Java Software Engineer, you will:Work on complex systems that enable defense operators to act decisively under time pressureParticipate in all development phases: from design to integration and validationCollaborate with software/system architects on architecture and secure codingTake ownership within the agile team for code quality, testing, and deliveryContribute to system and product demos in close collaboration with stakeholdersTech stack & environmentYou will work with:Languages & OS : Java, LinuxIDE & Tools : IntelliJ, Maven, Git, Bitbucket, NexusCI/CD : Jenkins, Continuous Integration & Delivery pipelinesTesting : JUnit, Test Automation, CucumberWay of working : Agile / Scrum, cross-functional teamsWho are we looking for?We’re looking for a Java developer who:Has a strong passion for technology and defense innovationEnjoys working in a collaborative Agile environmentHolds a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Software Engineering or a related fieldHas 5+ years of recent experience with professional Java developmentUnderstands the importance of safety and security in high-tech domainsIs a fast learner , eager to master complex domains and new techniquesLives within commuting distance (max 1 hour) from HengeloWhat’s in it for you?Long-term freelance (zzp) project with high societal impactA cutting-edge development environment focused on innovationThe chance to work on mission-critical systems for the German NavyCollaborative, professional culture within a multidisciplinary teamInterested?Are you ready to turn data into decisions and insights into action?
