Junior Professor in airway epithelial cell plasticity

Job description

Offer DescriptionDescription of the teaching project:The future chairholder will be involved in teaching at all levels (initial training and Masters) in the form of lectures and practical. He/she will be required to prepare students in the 1st year of the “Science for Health” bachelor’s degree, as well as in the second and third cycles of medical science training, for the study of cell and organ function in order to understand human physiology. He/she will also be involved at Master 1 and 2 levels, with the aim of tutoring students following these courses to reach the highest academic and professional levels. The junior professor will also be involved in Physiology courses at nursing training institutes, and in current or future training programs (European set-up) with which URCA is associated.Candidate profile:Teaching in higher education in biologyAbility to build training modulesUse of digital teaching tools (zoom, wooclap)Key words: physiology, cell biology, biochemistry, histology, healthTeaching department(s): 66Teaching location(s): Pôle santé, UFR MédecineComponent description:The school of Medicine of Reims offers access to health studies in the fields of Medicine, Maïeutics, Odontology, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy (MMOPK) and Occupational Therapy through a Licence mentioning “Sciences pour la santé” (“Health Sciences”). This BA is associated with 8 BA mentions corresponding to 10 different courses spread over 4 URCA sites. The first year of the Bachelor’s degree is organized around three sets of courses in: “health” (knowledge at the molecular, cellular, physiological and anatomical levels), BA corresponding to the path followed by the students (Sciences, Law, STAPS, Psychology, etc.) and “transversal” (Human and Social Sciences, Educational Sciences). This initial training is supplemented by two years of undergraduate studies and by 2nd and 3rd cycle medical studies. The school also offers other training courses, including Masters 1 and 2.Other information:The junior professor has a teaching service obligation on an annual basis of 64 hours without the possibility of doing complementary courses.Description of the research project:Asthma is a frequent chronic disease (7 to 10% of the population in France), with a colossal socio-economic impact. The main phenotypes described are based on the type of inflammation, and therapeutic strategies are not effective in all patients. Morphological and genome-wide association studies have shown cilia abnormalities, but the pathophysiological significance remains largely unknown. A deregulation of ciliogenesis associated with asthma is thought to contribute to the observed epithelial remodeling. The objectives of the ACilA project are to characterize all the genetic alterations associated with cilia in asthma, to functionally validate their involvement in vitro, and to study the impact of molecules modulating ciliogenesis in order to correct the observed remodeling. To answer these questions, a number of experimental tools will be mobilized: (i) genetic databases from asthma patients, (ii) bronchial tissue samples to reproduce airway epithelia in vitro, and (iii) a collection of fixed, paraffin-embedded tissues. The ACilA project will identify an asthma endotype associated with abnormalities in ciliogenesis, opening up innovative clinical prospects for optimal patient management.Candidate profile:Experience in cellular and molecular biology, if possible in the field of respiratory research, and in bioinformatics analysis.Experience in research supervision: proven ability to build and lead ambitious research projects, to train and supervise master’s students, PhD students and post-doctoral researchers.Key words: respiratory system, epithelial cellResearch department(s): Pôle santé, UFR MédecinePlace(s) of work: Inserm UMR-S 1250Laboratory description:The laboratory “Pulmonary Pathologies and Cell Plasticity” (Inserm UMR-S 1250, P3Cell) is a unit that develops its research within URCA in the fields of respiratory pathophysiology, cell biology, histology, and bioinformatics. P3Cell is also affiliated with Inserm. It currently has 48 members (teacher-researchers, researchers, BIATSS, PhD students and postdoctoral researchers), including 36 permanent staff who are also heavily involved in numerous care structures at Reims University Hospital. Its missions cover fundamental and translational research, training, development and technology transfer. Its research aims to identify and characterize the mechanisms involved in the genesis of respiratory diseases such as COPD, asthma, cystic fibrosis and cancer. The ACilA project will benefit from P3Cell’s expertise within the PHU RINNOPARI (Research and INNOvation in Inflammatory Respiratory Pathology), the FHU CURE (CUring and pREventing immune-mediated inflammatory disease) and the European Institute of Inflammatory Diseases in the Grand-Est (E3I).Further information:The junior teacher is supported throughout the project by a scientific advisor.RequirementsResearch Field Biological sciences Education Level PhD or equivalentLanguages FRENCH Level ExcellentLanguages ENGLISH Level ExcellentResearch Field Biological sciencesMedical sciences Years of Research Experience 4 – 10Additional InformationBenefitsFinancial summary:
