Land Management Officer

An opportunity has arisen to join the experienced team at Albanwise Environment Ltd. The
successful candidate will support delivery of a complex Landscape Recovery Project at Routh in
East Yorkshire, and lead on the practical delivery of our Environmental Land Management
contracts with clients and on our own estates in Yorkshire. We are looking for an enthusiastic,
practical person with a background in project and contractor management, excellent
communication skills and a passion for the natural environment. The role will be based at our
Hall Farm office in Routh, East Yorkshire, but travel to carry out duties at our other sites in
East and North Yorkshire will be necessary.

Reporting to the Environment Manager for Yorkshire, you will be the first port of call for
several exciting projects, carrying out a range of duties including:

  • Support delivery of the monitoring and evaluation work streams in Landscape Recovery,
    including survey data input and analysis, and report writing
  • Contractor liaison, management, and tender (graziers, land management professionals)
  • Developing excellent working relationships with Albanwise staff, project stakeholders and
    neighbouring land managers
  • The establishment, monitoring, and maintenance of Environmental Land Management agreements
  • Support volunteer recruitment and management and community outreach
  • Practical tasks including fencing, maintenance checks, basic chainsaw, tree and hedge
    planting, strimming and spraying
  • Environmental monitoring and surveys
  • Detailed record keeping and work planning

Skills and Qualifications:

Essential

  • 1-2 years’ relevant experience in a land management setting
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (including report writing and social media
    skills)
  • Data handling and analysis skills
  • A good range of practical land management experience, including machinery and equipment
    management
  • A recognised relevant qualification linked to countryside management or conservation
  • Some environmental monitoring/survey experience
  • Working with volunteers and/or communities
  • Commercial awareness
  • An interest and understanding of the management of the farmed environment
  • Strong time management and organisational skills
  • Flexible, practical attitude and a problem solver
  • Full UK driving license

Desirable

  • Experience of environmental land management schemes including Countryside Stewardship
  • Knowledge of protected site management
  • Some experience in delivering land management projects
  • Lantra or equivalent qualifications in chainsaw, tractor driving and brushcutters
  • Good public engagement skills including social media and interpretation
  • Experience of working in partnerships to achieve shared outcomes
  • PA1 and PA6 certificates in safe use of pesticides
