Lecturer in Biostatistics (TCD: Assistant Professor) – Permanent & Full-TimeDUBLIN DENTAL UNIVERSITY HOSPITALThe DDUH is a centre of excellence in patient care, education and research, which drives the learning experience of our students and the delivery of the highest quality care to patients in an integrated, holistic and balanced way. The Dublin Dental University Hospital is seeking to recruit a Lecturer in Biostatistics (TCD: Assistant Professor). This is a Permanent Contract & Full-Time / On Site (39 hours per week) to cover all the Academic years.The position reports to and is accountable to the Dean, Director of Research and Director of Postgraduate Teaching and Learning with consultation to include the Heads of Divisions.Applicants for the post must:Hold a Ph.D. in the area of Biostatistics.Have at least 3 years working experience post PhD and 3 year’s experience in teaching and learning.Have a proven track record in medical biostatistics and related research, supported by peer-reviewed publications in the international literature.Have experience of bioinformatics and manipulation of large data sets ideally in the dental, medical or life science field.Have experience in the educational design, delivery and management of undergraduate/ postgraduate programmes in biostatistics.Provide guidance and support in research design, protocol development, scientific writing, and data analysis and interpretation to postgraduate students.Be fully competent in SPSS, R, MS Office, in particular Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Internet and other relevant software.Applicants will ideally have:Gained postdoctoral statistical and research experience in a third level setting.Familiarity with database analysis, linear and logistic regression, fixed effects models and some experience in Structural Equation Modelling.The experience and skills to identify EU and other funding calls that align with the institution’s strategic research objectives.Experience of providing support to researchers in preparing grant applications including oversight and a contribution to the writing of non-scientific elements of the applications.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.The ability to empower and motivate others.Demonstrable adaptability to rapid changes taking place in the educational and health services in general.A student-focused approach.Outline of Duties and ResponsibilitiesThere are currently over 400 students in the DDUH across the range of dental programmes – undergraduate (dental science, nursing, dental technology, dental hygiene and orthodontic therapy), postgraduate, both taught and research, and continuing dental education Masters, diplomas and certificate courses. In addition, between 45 and 60 students are engaged in research at any one time in the DDUH.Commitments of the post include;Teaching of biostatistics for the under- and post-graduate dental programmes.Integrating biostatistics into the existing dental teaching and learning programmes.Assisting staff and students with research project design, statistical analysis and applications for grant funding.Developing support in scientific writing skills for students.Actively engaging and publishing research findings.The nature of education and research is such that adaptability is essential to this role. The person chosen will be required to maintain, enhance and develop their knowledge and skills necessary to respond to changing situations.
