The Department of Economics at the University of Southampton is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Economics. We welcome applications in all fields, but we are particularly interested in candidates with interests in Applied Economics and a commitment to excellence in research and teaching.

The University of Southampton ranks in the top 1% of world Universities and is one of the UK’s top 15 research intensive universities. The Economics Department has an outstanding reputation for high quality applied and theoretical research in all core areas of Economics. Our research is structured around four broadly defined and interconnected research groups: applied economics, econometrics, economic theory/experimental economics, and macroeconomics.  100% of our research environment, 100% of our impact initiatives and 92.6% of our research outputs were rated as internationally excellent and above by the REF2021 panel.

Expectations from the post holder include developing and maintaining a high-quality research agenda that leads to publications in leading peer-reviewed journals and grant applications; teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels; research supervision at master’s and PhD levels and contributing to departmental and university administration. Successful applicants should have a PhD in Economics or an equivalent qualification in a related quantitative subject and be able to satisfy all the essential criteria detailed in the job description.

The successful candidate will be expected to start in October 2024 but an earlier starting date is negotiable.

Informal enquiries may be made to Professor Jean-Yves Pitarakis ([email protected] ), Professor Carmine Ornaghi ([email protected]) or the Head of Department Dr Emanuela Lotti ([email protected] ).
