The OpportunityThis lawyer’s primary role will be to provide strategic legal advice to the various Abbott divisions in the Spain & Portugal, as well as to projects within the wider Europe region.We need an individual to provide commercial and strategic legal advice and support across Abbott’s businesses, and on specific projects elsewhere in the Europe region. Duties will include analysis and provision of strategic legal advice focused on business-oriented solutions on a wide range of general commercial matters. Role will include management of external counsel.What You’ll DoIdentifies routine to moderately complex legal issues related to strategic matters across Abbott divisions; solutions focused and effective risk management capability.Negotiates and provides strategic legal support on significant matters and areas of importance directly to management and lead stakeholders across the divisionsMaintains a sound knowledge of Abbott businesses in the countries supported and knowledge of the broader business impact to the extent of assigned issuesResolves moderately complex legal matters day to day in practice area and elevates appropriately to senior legal leadership and other members of the legal team where support is neededKeeps abreast of changes in laws that affect client areas; communicates these to business;Resolves legal issues using negotiation skills and legal expertise;Manages external counsel in a cost-effective manner to minimize risk to Abbott and provide effective advice to the relevant Abbott businesses.Required QualificationsQualified Lawyer in Spain or similar5–8 years of post-qualification experience. Experience in renowned law firm or in-house in a multinational company are preferred, and ideally with some experience in the healthcare sector or other highly regulated industry.Languages: Fluent in English and Spanish (both written and spoken) is required. Portuguese is highly valued.Competencies:Strong experience in general commercial lawCross border international experienceInstruction and management of external counselStrong drafting, negotiation and client communication skillsStrong project management skillsAble to assimilate new areas of law quickly leveraging support from external counsel where appropriate.Desirable Qualifications:Competition/anti-trust lawDistribution and agency agreementsDispute resolutionPublic procurement law practice (preferably in the healthcare sector)Regulation of interaction with Healthcare Professionals and Healthcare InstitutionsRegulated industry experience (e.g. healthcare – medical devices / nutritional products) would be an advantage.Data PrivacyAppreciation of key USA and European anti-corruption, sanctions and compliance laws as well as Corporate Criminal Liability lawsFollow your career aspirations to Abbott for diverse opportunities with a company that can help you build your future and live your best life.
