  • act as a system leader for safeguarding children and young people across Walsall
  • manage the Positon of Trust process in respect of adults in all sectors where there are concerns that they have caused harm or intend to cause harm to a child in accordance with statutory requirements
  • manage a diverse range of sensitive relationships within the Corporation across Directorates (Children’s Services, Clean & Green; Leisure Services) and with external agencies including (but not limited to) schools and education providers, early years providers, health providers, police, charities, independent, private, faith and voluntary groups at a local, regional and national stage
  • to work as appropriate with HR services within the Corporation (Children’s Services, Clean & Green; Leisure Services) and across all partnership agencies including (but not limited to) schools, and education providers, early years providers, health providers, police, charities, independent, private, faith and voluntary groups at a local, regional and national stage
  • to ensure that senior leaders are kept fully informed in respect of those situations that may result in adverse or negative publicity either for the corporation or for Walsall
  • Maintain current knowledge in national safeguarding policy, guidance and learning from reviews for children to ensure that the Learning and Development Programme is up to date and reflects changes in legislation, statutory guidance and practice
  • Maintain current knowledge in respect of statutory developments and requirements for other statutory providers in respect of safeguarding within their sector
  • Develop and deliver training in respect of safeguarding and positions of trust across the sector including but not limited to Children’s Services, Clean & Green; Leisure Services, schools, and education providers, early years providers health, voluntary, faith, independent and private providers
  • Review feedback from training provision and act on emerging themes to ensure that the training programme is consistently of a high standard and meets identified learning outcomes
  • Prepare a quarterly newsletter for delivery across the sector
  • Act as a system leader in respect of adults who may have harmed of who may pose a risk to children
  • Chair all meetings in respect of managing allegations in respect of individuals who have caused harm or may pose a risk to children
  • Challenge, as required, decisions made by employers in respect of their employees which do not assure the safeguarding of children
  • Provide advice across the safeguarding partnership in respect of interpreting and implementing Safeguarding Procedures and policies
  • Develop and maintain a network of those working with children within the authority
  • Develop and deliver multi-agency training to ensure that best practice is achieved across all sectors
  • Prepare a quarterly newsletter for delivery across the sector which highlights new issues, challenges thinking and identifies learning
  • Attend MAPPA meetings as the Children’s Services representative
  • Prepare and deliver learning events
  • Ensure that the client information system in respect of adults who may pose a risk to children or have caused harm to a child is maintained
  • Maintain and further develop performance management systems regarding the management of allegations in respect of adults posing a risk
  • Provide an annual report in relation to LADO activity for presentation in multiple fora which outlines activity for the year and areas for future development
  • Quality assurance work commensurate with the role
  • Ensure the annual training is based on training needs and can be matched to identifiable outcomes
  • Develop and maintain positive links across the partnership
  • Ability to have challenging conversations with providers across the sector and outside the local authority to ensure that the decisions they take keep children safe
  • Attend relevant meetings at regional and national level and ensure learning is disseminated with the Directorate and across the partnership
  • Deliver direct training, having detailed knowledge and skills to a diverse range of specialist disciplines to ensure that children are kept safe, risk is mitigated and appropriate action taken when adults who are of a concern are identified
  • The post holder will comply with and promote the Council’s Health, Wellbeing and Safety at Work policies and ensure these are implemented effectively within his/her areas of responsibility
  • Through personal commitment and clear action, the postholder will promote the Council’s employment policies, with particular reference to diversity, equality of access and treatment in employment, service delivery and community involvement. To support/develop a working culture within these services that reflects the corporate vision
  • Ensure that the services provided aligned to the Council strategy, vision, aims, objectives, priorities and continuous improvement programme and play their part in achieving these. This includes compliance with Standing Orders, Financial Regulations, Code of Conduct and the Councils Policies and Procedures

Essential Requirements:

  • Social Work Qualification – Degree or equivalent
  • Relevant Experience within children’s services
  • Social Work England Registration
  • Driving license and access to own vehicle
