With a magnificent campus in a privileged residential area near the vibrant city of Barcelona, the UAB offers a great variety of services, including a residential area with apartments, stores and restaurants, and a very active social and cultural agenda.Brief Description of the Centre/Research Group:Within the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology at UAB (ranked #1 in Spain), The will support two applications for within the field of migration, diversity and critical mixed race studies. The INMIX is a Consolidated multidisciplinary research group, with experienced researchers with training in different disciplines in the social sciences, dedicated to the study of international migration, interethnic relations, and processes of the sociocultural integration of immigrants, ethnic minorities and their descendants. The research group has a particular interest in the study of mixedness (i.e., intermarriage, multiethnicity and multiracialism), combining quantitative and qualitative methodologies, and is very committed to the dissemination and transfer of knowledge from academia to the political and civic spheres. With an extensive academic international network, the INMIX has a permanent interest in conducting international comparisons and in collaborating with researchers from other countries. The group has a fully equipped office (the ) that fosters collaboration and guidance in research and career development.Project Description:INMIX-UAB is looking to host 2 Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellows who are applying to the current 2025 open call within the field of migration, minorities, diversity, race and racism. Candidates with a PhD in the Social Sciences who have a strong research profile in one or more of the following sub-areas will be prioritized:

  • Race, racism, racialization, and colorblindness
  • Identity and sense of belonging
  • Intermarriage, multiethnicity and multiracialism
  • Discrimination, inclusion and exclusion
  • Multiculturalism and interculturalism

Applicants are expected to perform high-quality research and to produce/collaborate on academic papers that are suitable for being published in leading academic journals. Candidates are also expected to have good problem-solving, troubleshooting and analytical skills; to be proficient in English; to have good interpersonal, written and oral communication skills; and to be able to work well independently as well as in a group. If selected, candidates are also expected to participate in research activities initiated or promoted by INMIX-UAB, such as seminars, workshops, conferences and publications.Tutor: Dan Rodríguez GarcíaDan Rodríguez-García is Serra Húnter Full Professor of Social and Cultural Anthropology at the , Spain. He has 26 years of experience teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, notably “Methodology and Epistemology in the Social Sciences,” “Migration and Intercultural Relations,” and “International Migration: Theories and Trends.” He has supervised numerous doctoral and MA theses and has sat on more than 100 Evaluation Committees. Professor Rodríguez-García is the founder and director of the at UAB, officially recognized as a Consolidated Research Group by the Government of Catalonia (2021SGR-00181). He is also a member of the Network of Excellence on International Migration, Integration and Social Cohesion in Europe (IMISCOE) and an Affiliated Research Member of CERIS-The Ontario Metropolis Centre.His main areas of research are international migration, interethnic relations, and the social integration processes of immigrants and their descendants. In 1996 he pioneered research on “mixedness” in Spain, being the first Spanish researcher to investigate present-day intermarriage (across national, ethnocultural, racial, religious, and class boundaries), mixed families, mixed descendants, and the sociocultural processes of mixing (sociopolitical attitudes, identity processes, and the everyday construction of culturally hybrid spaces).   • Hold a PhD and a maximum of eight years full-time research experience after PhD. Years of experience outside research and career breaks (e.g. maternity leave) are not taken into account;
  • Not having resided or carried out your main activity in Spain for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately before the call deadline (11/09/2021 – 11/09/2024).
